Se7enbuds Restaurant [San Francisco, Polk Gulch]

I had a nice dinner yesterday at Se7enbuds Restaurant in Polk Gulch, a Afghan and Persian restaurant that opened last December.

I had the combo kobideh kabob ($20.99), which had one beef kebab and one chicken kebab. This was great! The meats were nicely grilled and tender and juicy. It’s not grilled on charcoal but I think that’s pretty rare to find. The saffron scented rice was excellent - perfectly cooked and fluffy long grain rice. There was also a very hot grilled green pepper, a grilled tomato, a slice of raw red onion, and some pickled red cabbage, along with some lemon to squirt on the kebabs.

I also had the mantu ($16.99), which were beef filled dumplings topped with a yogurt sauce and yellow lentils. These were nicely wrapped and good, but could have used a little more salt - easily fixed with some from the shaker. There’s free green and black tea in the back.

That is a really weird name for a restaurant let alone for a Persian/Afghan one. Are they wanting us to think of a severed head in a box?

I’m a bit curious about the name as well. Their logo looks like a vine with seven bunches of leaves on it, with a 7 in the middle. Wondering if that has any signifigance.
