Schnitzel in Listowel [Listowel, Ontario]

Veky’s
I might check it out. It’s fairly unusual to find central Euro, Hungarian or Serbian food in southern Ontario these days.

3 Hungarian restaurants closed in Ontario last summer.

I’m happy to see someone serving goulash. (I’m okay if it’s a Serb calling his goulash Hungarian goulash)

Wow.

What a menu.

I feel like Cheesecake Factory must be green with envy right now.

The owner is Croatian.

Well, yes, I saw that.

But the menu runs the gamut of nearly 5 different continents.

We have deep fried Mars bars, to hamburgers, to teriyaki stir fry, to fish and chips to Linguine Pesto Alfredo and we round off the menu with half a dozen selections of Schnitzel.

Bravo to the kitchen.

Impressions Bakery in Listowel. :100:

I had a slice of quiche, $3.25, which was very good.

I’ve nver seen such tall crullers! How many steps from your place to this?

147 000 steps, if each km is 1500 steps. :joy:

The peaches and cream donut, with fresh local peach in the middle. Delish.

Might replicate at home, using a raised donut from a good donut shop, Chantilly cream and fresh fruit.

I returned to Listowel today.

I stopped at Impressions Bakery again, where I picked up an apple pie, sesame sourdough, dinner rolls, a sticky bun, 2 apple fritters, an Americano and a cappuccino.

I also visited KCI Deli, where I purchased The Montrealer sandwich ($9.95, smoked meat and Swiss on marble rye)

I also picked up some sausage, Gouda, blue cheese, Wilhelmina Mints, Dutch spices, and a new steamer insert.

I got a kick out of Shaboba restaurant selling shawarma and bubble tea. Maybe I’ll try it out in the spring.

Here is a dinner roll from Impressions Bakery, and a local J-Mar Custom Meats breakfast sausage purchased at KCI Deli.

I stopped in Listowel today, and stocked up on frozen lamb stew meat, lamb ribs, chicken thighs, bacon, Italian sausage and butter at McIntosh Farm’s butcher shop. Amazing value.

We liked the chicken tonight.

I also stopped at Impressions Bakery, again. I stop any time I drive through Listowel Tuesday to Saturday. The bakery is closed on Sundays and Mondays . I think the staff are beginning to recognize me.

I bought another lemon cruller, some hand pies, dinner rolls, and a few small pies for the freezer. They make good granola, too.

I will return when I’m in the area. Nice staff, too.

Off, but on topic, I offer this to our Hungry Schnitzel Seeker. If you find yourself in Bowmanville, make sure you lunch at Norm’s Delicatessen. Usually I find it the most boring part of my plate. This had me shoving my pierogies and cabbage roll aside for another bite of properly seasoned, crisply crusted, and tender pork schnitzel.

thank you!!!
I will keep it in mind.

someone also mentioned Sauter’s Inn in Ajax on Reddit.

I sort of avoid going east of Waterloo on my day trips from London.

I will explore Bowmanville next time I head east of the GTA

Don’t do it. Years ago under the original owners, Sauters Inn was great for my bestie’s wedding reception. The decor was very Fachwerkhaus. The food was made with care.

The current owners closed off that room and now serve in what can best be described as forgotten cafeteria. The food seems as though made by someone who looked at a picture and then guessed. The wine list is the lowest form of plonk. Its in my Top 3 worst Durham dining experiences which is really saying something.

For schnitzel Prague, drive like hell, Norm’s Delicatessen.
