Saravana Bhavan has branches all over London and apparently all over the world but I’ve only been to the Tooting one in South London before finding myself at the flagship London branch in Wembley. It proudly declares itself the world’s No 1 Indian vegetarian restaurant, but I don’t know what they base that claim on. It is a reliable place to grab South Indian vegetarian staples like idli and dosa, with a huge choice on the menu. I haven’t tried the more interesting offerings. At Wembley, I just needed somewhere to escape a sudden downpour of rain so ducked into Saravana Bhavan to wait it out over a plate of idli and a small filter coffee. Service was polite and quick and the bill was just under £8.
