That’s quite a mountain to climb! The closest we ever got was getting to have the staff soup as part of our meal, and that’s mostly because my mom used to schmooze the owner in Chinese every time we went there.

You can’t even buy some fast food for $12 these days. This is such a deal.
Chase Luck Bakery, a dim sum spot across the street and a few blocks towards City College, with about eight steam table selections, does a $10 lunch special. Two selections from the steam table over noodles or fried rice. Solid and generous lunch. I like the curry, but find the breaded items can be gloppy.
