[San Francisco, Inner Sunset] Kothai Republic

Kothai Republic is a bit of everything. On paper its supposed to be a Korean-meet-Thai restaurant. But I think its more like Korean-Thai-Californian. We went during Sunday lunch when they served brunch, and that’s more Californian-Korean. Anyway, its hard to place Kothai Republic into a particular category. But the food was good, borrowing techniques and flavors from multiple cultures and combining them well. The menu was mostly American during brunch so we’d have to come back and try their dinner offerings.

Rose Toast. Shrimp, gochujiang cream, egg on bread. The gochujiang was what gave the toast a Korean flavor. Good toast.

Really Custardy Toast: Poached pear, mascarpone cream on toast. Pretty good.

1398 Rancheros. Bulgogi beef plus tomato salsa on tortilla. This one was a little bit odd for me since the eggs, tortilla and bulgogi beef seemed to be quite disparate both physically and flavor-wise.

Mushroom omelette. Several different types of mushroom with pecorino, arugula. Yummy.

KFC Sandwich. Fried chicken sandwich with gochujiang sauce, aioli and coleslaw. Its good. We especially liked the gochujiang sauce and took it home to slather it on everything for a few days.

Also came with most dishes were the red potatoes. They were tasty. Though I forgot the name of the variety they used.
