especially sad news for those of us who have been eating there since the early 80s:
I don’t know Scott, but his article hit the nail on the head with “..But Lou was really doing it all. And he never seemed to enjoy it… I love Lou, but I always got the feeling he was there because he had to be there, that it was some kind of family obligation.” I look forward to trying the new place.
i would have liked to have said goodbye.
You saw the Caputo’s bakery news too?
Ferdinando’s went several months ago & Mazzola’s Bakery is for sale.
Sad. Not surprised. But still sad. I wonder if Lou also sold the building. What a character.
But maybe the new owner will at least have regular hours.
when I last spoke with him, which was over a year ago, he said he planned to sell the building. I didn’t take it too seriously since he’s been talking about it forever.
i did not, how sad! Happy to have had that last loaf of lard bread…
