Y’all are eating like champs, and I’m living vicariously through y’all!

aka pizza strips (from a RI native). :grinning:

I’m not sure how I deleted my post, but here is the text of my reply to Peter

True. It tasted as good as it looked. Also, had my first piadina. Homemade with lard, an Italian quesadilla. They put a little, very creamy, mashed potato on the pork and it was fantastic. Not sure of the box number in the Testaccio Market but I think the name is visible in the picture.

Day 6, Thursday. Day trip to Bologna which was another new stop for me. (high speed trains are awesome) A couple more basilicas, the Pinacoteca museum and more food. If Napoli was the 7th layer of insanity, Bologna while busy with school trips and tourists was downright calm.

First stop, cheese shop. I think it’s required when you visit. A kilo to take home.

Wandered into a church and oh, there’s a della Quercia, in the wild…just hanging out.

Like stiff rice pudding. Very tasty, if a little sweet for me.

Basilica di San Martino. Daughter informed me it was going to be bigger than St. Peter’s. The pope put a stop to that.

I laughed when she told me that as we were looking at the hodgepodge exterior.

Hey, the Italians are finally figuring out what to do with our invasive blue crab.

NOI for lunch. tagliere, tagliatelle Bolognese, and tortellini in a parmigiano cream sauce. Again, not a miss to be had.
(Il Tagliere dei Salsamentari per due persone
4 tigelle, squacquerone, caciotta di Castel San Pietro, pecorino dei colli bolognesi,
Parmigiano Reggiano, la nostra giardiniera, friggione, spuma di mortadella,
pesto modenese, mortadella, salame rosa, coppa estiva, salame…)

Back on the 5PM train to Roma, but not without a hitch. For the first time tour guide and translator daughter had a misstep and we boarded the wrong train. A few moments of terror until we realized we were going in the right direction and would end up in Rome, albeit 40 minutes later than planned. After a quick scolding by the train staff to “pay attention next time”, we were not kicked off the train in Firenze and were able to find 2 seats.

Light-ish dinner in Mercato Centrale at the Termini train station. Bonci is gone from there and that’s what we were planning on, so we switched gears and had a pizza napoletana since we did not get a baked pizza on our trip there. Some mozzarella in carozza and finally the first miss. A cold suppli :zipper_mouth_face:

Wave to the Colosseum, and a nightcap or two for the old man as she went on a walk through Trastevere.

Day 7, that’s a wrap.

Quick wave to St. Peter’s, pizza at Bonci, stroll around Villa Farnesina, saying hi to Sig. Roberto and Sig.ra Anna at Antica Caciara Trasteverina , pizza at Il Panettiere di San Cosimato , dinner at Giggetto.

Bonci was hectic! But worth it.

I feel the ghetto gets a lot iof shade but our meal at Giggeto was lovely. Coratella was not too lung-y, baccala fried perfectly, no complaints. Well other than the Roman waiter who made sure to let me know that the service charge was not included.

Thanks for following along. Back to reality, where budgets are real.
