We never had Yemen food before so we took advantage of a trip to the Rosie the Riveter visitor center to also grab some Yemen food Luke Tsai wrote about.
Both were pretty good. The foul beans came with some pita bread to soak up all the beans. The chicken was nicely grilled. Moist and tender.
I also ordered the lamb kebab but it didn’t make into the order for some reason. The cashier also recommended the wraps. No more salta on the menu.
Anyone tried other dishes on the menu?
BTW, the Visitor Center, operated by the NPS, is quite informative. Not crowded at all. The volunteer there got really excited that they had according to him ‘a lot’ of visitors that day. Got some good history about the history of Richmond, Japanese internment, WWII, Henry Kaiser, and Kaiser Permanente.
Everything I’ve had there has been really good - have especially liked the lamb kabob and chicken Mendi. Have also gotten the hummus, falafel and salad for a nice shared lunch. Much of the food is prepared to order, which can take a little time, but definitely worth the wait. That said, it’s possible to order on line or by phone, preferable to me after dusk - it’s not the most comfortable place to be waiting outside after dark….
I’ll have to give it another try because my chicken mendi last week was a bit dry and lacking in flavor. I saw a couple of reviews suggesting that the management and staff had changed and that the food summarily went downhill. Hopeful that’s not the case.
I’ve been there five or six times, for the chicken mendi. It was dry just once. It’s enough for two meals, and I get additional tubs of toum to bring home.
Yes I think only the mendi and the wraps come quickly, because they probably already have the meat ready. Everything else takes a while. They told me ordering the lamb kebab would take 25 minutes, which I was ok with. Although it never came.
It is a bit of an awkward place to sit and eat though. With the cars pulling in and out. We just ended up going back to the visitors center and ate.
