Reyla, Asbury Park

I’ve been to Reyla a few times in the last 6 months or so, as a group of friends from NNJ love going there to kick off a day of shopping in AP. But this past Saturday, I finally sat at the chef’s counter for dinner. Hard to believe that in 8+ years of loving this place that I’d never done it, but we had a fun and delicious night.
Because I’m shy, I started by introducing myself to the chef, as we’ve been following each other on IG for years but had never met. We then ordered cocktails (Hey Reylas - vodka, mint, lemon - all around!) and the Salatim (see earlier post w description) with the current selection of hummus, lima beans, Moroccan carrots, burnt eggplant, a cabbage slaw w coconut, and a cauliflower puree that was smooth as silk. ALL delicious, but if I had to pick a favorite, I think it was the eggplant this time.
For entrees, we had a long discussion with the chef and landed on short ribs, schnitzel, and (no surprise) octopus for me. Three distinctly different, beautifully presented, and insanely tasty dishes. TG for friends who share tastes!!!
We didn’t have time for dessert (our error) as we were due at a show, but my friends couldn’t stop talking about how great both the experience and food was. Reyla is still firing on all cylinders after all these years - how many of you have been ‘meaning’ to go?!?

We went to Reyla’s one night and were disappointed that they were taking us to sit in the back. Turned out they took us to a booth just one aisle away from the pass. Best seat at the house if you’re not actually at the counter though I’m not sure that was their intention.

Love their food and drinks
