Rewatching Top Chef

On another note, Katsuji is a contestant on Yes,Chef, where all the chefs have personality issues.

Yeah. I saw the very end of that last night and it was not a flattering look. :grimacing:

Interesting. Thanks.

So. My husband and I started rewatching season 1. I never realized how different it was.

  1. Katie Lee - enough said
  2. Katie was strictly a host. Rarely, tasted, never judged.
  3. Cheftestants sat at judges table
  4. The 3 on the bottoms were not told they had the least favorite dish, but the worst.
  5. The talent? So bad. A few good chefs, ie Harold, Tiffany. But Miguel, aka Chunk?
  6. The challenges??? Yikes!

Yes! Top Chef has been quite an evolution, and sup has celebrity cheffing! I can’t recall the last time there was a "private chef$, and many are execs chefs no, or already have restaurants.

I have appreciated the comments of returning chefs like Jen and Tiffany F. looking back and commenting on their previous appearances.

It was nice to hear them both realize their mistakes

I’ve been working my way through tournament of Champions and there are so many topchef winners and contestants that pop up that I had pretty much forgotten about. I like the format of the show and in many ways it so much less convoluted than top chef. Spin the randomizer which tells you what your protein and vegetable is and then cook for 30 or 40 minutes and then leave and judges have no idea who the chef is so no bias or preconceptions. Also delightful that I can fast forward through all the unnecessary chit chat.

I started watching recently. So many TC contestants! And boy have they changed. Nice to see Antonia so successful, and Tiffany. Michael V has changed too!

I started watching all the seasons about 2 months ago and I’m about half way through the last season. Yeah, some of the chefs have done some real glam ups since the first season. As I said, it’s perfect viewing on my iPad since no commercials and I can fast forward through Guy’s glitzy intros.

I realized I had already shared my thoughts about caterers and private “cheftestants”;

Correcting typos

AI says Stephanie Izard was the last, but I am not sure it understood the question.

Wrong Stephanie. Stephanie Izard was not a private chef, but Stephanie Cmar was. At the same time, I think there has been at least one on since Stephanie Cmar.

Thank you! I knew I probably had the wrong last name!

AI now says “Lana Lagomarsini, a private chef from Harlem and owner of Lana Cooks…”

Of course!

Google tells me that Alisha from the Wisconsin season (so, just one season back) was is a private chef).
