Haven’t been to the Roncesvalles strip in awhile. Cafe Polonez is a longstanding favourite.
I think my friend and I will do a pierogi crawl, comparing the pierogis at Chopin, Café Polonez, InterSteer, Benna’s hot table (at the back), and The Whole Plate (a hot table).
Here are photos from our Pierogi Crawl.
The Daily Plate. Cottage cheese and potato pierogis. (Cold, meant to be reheated at home) Blintzes which we did not try.
Café Polonez
We tried the cottage cheese potato and cheddar potato pierogis. The cheddar potato pierogis were our favourite today.
Intersteer Tavern
We tried the pan-fried cheddar potato and the pan-fried sauerkraut mushroom pierogis. The dough was more pastry-like than noodle- like. I liked the mushroom sauerkraut pierogis. My friend found the cheddar pierogis underseasoned.
We didn’t buy anything at Benna’s. The hot table has schnitzel and savoury crêpes but no warm pierogis. They sell frozen pierogis. These pastries are available at Benna’s.

Old Europe has a huge selection of German imported candies and cookies, as well as some Austrian and German jams and mustards. My purchases:
Visted Cluny’s boulangerie today in the Distillery District. Excellent baguettes and croissants. Drinkable coffee, probably better than Balzac’s. Also walked around the Distillery winter village. It’s not as good as it used to be. Fewer outdoor vendors, more areas devoted to bars.
