Jay Rayner’s column in today’s Observer carries the news that Reg Johnson has died, aged 64
You might be wondering just who Reg was and why Rayner mentioned it there and why i mention it here. Well, if you’ve eaten chicken or duck in a mid-range and up restaurant, you’ve probably eaten “Goosnargh” chicken or duck., raised by Reg at his his farm near Preston.
I remember when you would only see them in the north west but, in recent years, Reg found national markets as they quality became better known. They’re not generally available ouside the restaurant industry but Booths supermarkets in the North west do stock them.
