Recommended pizza spots in Toronto GTA

I still haven’t tried it.

I don’t like Maker that much, whereas I like Beast Pizza, Fourth Man in the Fire and Badiali’s a lot. I’ve tried 2 pizzas from Makers. A spicy one with sausage and jalapeños called Napoli Dynamite OG (too spicy for me- I ate it, but wouldn’t order it again) ,

and a meatball one that’s no longer offered.

In my continuing effort to make myself at home in Durham, some friends and I are on our way to Uxbridge this Saturday. We’re going to a movie at an art deco era movie theatre, The Roxy. After that, we’ll be diving into Foundry Pi at The Second Wedge Brewing Company. Yup, a brewery sharing their space and serving up some fine looking, fresh made pizza. My spouse and I have loved every morsel we’ve eaten at Foundry’s Port Perry restaurant. We’re really looking forward to seeing what they do in Uxbridge. Here’s some pizza porn for ya.

The 6 of us ordered 4, all with different toppings including the aforementioned ’ Napoli Dynamite '…which turned out to be our favorite!! To each his own, I guess?!

Definitely!

My favourite pizzas over the last 6 months have been from Beast Pizza and Fourth Man in the Fire.

I finally tried Pizza Gigi on Harbord last night. Around 9:15 pm on a Monday night, they had at least 6 different slices available, including 2 types of Sicilian-style pizza, which is a slightly deeper dish pizza than their cheaper standard slices.

I tried the olive and mushroom Sicilian-style slice. The crust was light and crispy. I liked it. Less sauce than most places I frequent. It seemed less greasy than Bitondo’s, the main place I grab single slices lately.

I still haven’t tried Fresca Pizza and Pasta at 302 College St, which is cheap and popular with Redditors.

What’re ya doing eating Pizza Gigi before 2:30am?!?!?

Was at the Etobicoke Costco so had to visit Dino’s wood fired pizza
Good stuff I had the sujuck pide (nicely spiced) and friends had amore and enjoyed it

I tried the Hawaiian slice from Acute Pizzeria on Dundas W at Lansdowne. I liked it.

It tasted very good. Similar to Badiali’s style of crust and thickness.

One slice costs $5.93 including tax.

This is the Hawaiian.

Margherita which I did not try

Mushroom white pizza which I did not try.

Did I mention that there was no line at 2 pm on a rainy Sunday? :joy:

Big Trouble on Geary. I love this idea.

Do any other pizzerias offer an assorted slice box? I realize one could fill a box with slices. I like that Big Trouble is offering this.

Mac’s Pizza on Dovercourt. It’s very good, in the same league as Acute, Beast, Fourth Man in the Fire and Badiali’s for me. They sell slices as well as whole pies.

They have tables and they have a liquor license. Nice people, too.

The All Dressed. Pepperoni, mushrooms and green pepper. $32 CAD.

We finally got around to trying Afro’s. The crust is somewhat tougher and maybe a bit overcooked (possibly because they were in a warmer when I arrived to pick them up), compared with Descendant. But the toppings are really fun and tasty. We tried 6 personal size ones to sample a range of the options:

The King Bacon Double Cheeseburger: seasoned, somewhat charred ground beef, double-smoked bacon, tomatoes, pickled purple onion, pickles, burger sauce - very tasty, bacon-y, with a hint of Big Mac.

The Marley Vegetarian: mushrooms, roasted red peppers, beans (a first for any pizza I’ve had), callaloo, curried potatoes, jackfruit, green sauce aioli, and crispy jalapenos - lots of yummy Caribbean veggie sides on a pizza.

The Jackie Brown: jerk chicken, purple cabbage coleslaw with tequila-lime-coconut dressing, jackfruit, green sauce aioli, and crispy jalapeno - a few too many elements, obscuring the flavour of the jerk chicken itself.

The Hendrix Experience Chicken and Waffles: crust infused with waffle ingredients, fried chicken, toasted pecans, pressed watermelon with tequila, maple habanero, and fresh cilantro - even if the chicken was more baked than fried, this was a genius combo.

Bruce Leeroy: crispy pork, crispy pork skin, apples, scallions, pickled bird’s eye chilis, pickled garlic, apple mustard chutney - lots of tang to offset the richness.

Betty Wright: braised herb-marinated lamb, roasted plum tomatoes, charred pickled onions, raita, and micro greens - supple and very lamb-y lamb, complemented nicely by the other ingredients.

Decent (added extra cheese,) nice crust and is in line with the one they offer at nervosa

Despite living near the Danforth in the 70s and again since 2004, I have never tried Danforth Pizza House… until tonight. Pretty good overall. Not worth a trip across town, but if you are in the neighbourhood and want something a bit more old school, they do a decent job. The weakest link is the crust, which is fine for texture but a bit on the tasteless side.

We tried The House Special: tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, and bacon - a standard “deluxe” combo with the extra of nicely cooked pieces of bacon.

Better was The Angry Bee: tomato sauce, mozzarella, cremini mushrooms, sliced raw garlic, fennel sausage, Calabrese honey sausage, ricotta infused with roasted garlic, hot honey, bomba chilis - very nice balance of toppings, with a lot of kick from the chilis.

That second one looks interesting. I still haven’t been to Danforth Pizza House or Frank’s Pizza House ( The one on St Clair W.)

I never made it to Gerrard Spaghetti and Pizza House before it closed in 2019.

Milano’s in Etobicoke has been around since 1963. I haven’t been there, either.

We’ve been on a bit of a pizza spree, so we tried Renaissance tonight. Overall it was very good. The crust isn’t as flavourful as Descendant, but it’s not as greasy as Afro’s. The toppings can be quite fun and flavourful.

Pulled Pork had tender, but not particularly flavouful pork, a nice tomato sauce, fresh sweet pineapple, mozzarella, red onion, pickled jalapeño, scallions. Good overall, but the pork could have had more to it.

Duck Confit featured tender and rich duck, caramelized onions, mozzarella, goat cheese, balsamic aioli glaze, and fresh chives. Very tasty. The topping got a little dried out, but I was late picking it up and then had a 20-minute drive home.

Tandoori Paneer had tandoori-spice cheese cubes, pickled mango chutney, red onion, scallions, cilantro aioli, and tomato sauce. This had the best flavours, with a nice tang of lime holding it all together.

This was the slice I got from Frank’s Pizza House last year. Pretty unremarkable and felt a little undercooked (and they have reheated this piece already)

I feel like I need to support a couple old school joints before they disappear.

Probably would be better to order a whole pizza. I’m not sure I’ll do that, though.
