Recommended Pakistani/Indian/Desi food spots in Toronto GTA

He also recommended Momo Zone recently on Metro Morning. http://momozonetoronto.com/

I already have both of those on my wish list (thanks Suresh).
However, my issue/problem with Suresh is that he doesn’t seem ‘sensitive’ to MSG. I’ve tried his recommendations before and had a ‘strong reaction’ to added MSG.
So please, if anyone tries the above, would welcome comments on MSG.

I’ve had my eye on Momo Zone. We’re often in the area because, as Suresh rightfully points out, its been turning into a food district for a while now.

My advice is wait for the post-review line-ups to die down. I’d guess that the future online reviews will let you know if you need to be concerned.

Out this way, Lageez is my absolute, hands-down favourite. Whether its take-out or dine in, its consistently great.

I think I’ve eaten pretty much everything on the menu. My regulars are the Goan Fish Curry and the so good, even my spouse will eat his veggies Baigan Bharta.

In our old neighbourhood, we quite liked Vindaloo Indian Cuisine. Perhaps the nicest room for a dine in Indian dinner in Scarborough.

Among my favourites were Seafood Vindaloo, Salmon Tikka, and the (wait for it) Seared Scallops. The chicken and lamb dishes are good too, but honestly finding a seafood focused North Indian restaurant is a real treat.

I’m sensitive to sulfites and nitrites, so I’ve been very careful with take-out lately, too. A lot of Thai and Vietnamese restaurant food, as well as some dishes from Terroni and Eataly have caused reactions lately.

Linking for easier reference Rediscovering Toronto - also Indian buffet?

Had an impromptu trip to square one today as I guess it much was open. On the way back picked up bihari kebab from BBQ 2nite. Comes with free bread for take out fyi. Good stuff and made a good dinner. I think they are one of the better one’s in GTA though I rarely venture out of Toronto.

I recently tried Mannat on College west of Ossington. They have some cheap takeout options. It is very popular with a South Asian client base.

I was craving butter chicken - which was fine (standard) . Samosas and Strawberry Lassi were okay. I didn’t try more of the menu.

I will try a Hakka dish at Mannat next time.

https://byaanch.ca/ By Aanch is a more upscale modern Indian restaurant closer to Little Italy that I have not tried.
$23.99 to $42.99 for mains. That could add up! I posted 3 pages from the 7 page menu.

Samrat is also in Little Italy. It hasn’t been busy whenever I haven’t walked past.

I tried the downtown Aanch last year and it was quite good.

Good to know! I am posting the downtown Aanch menu.
By Aanch is quite a bit more expensive. Mains are $17.99 (vegetarian) to $35.99 (the Lobster Jalfrezi) . Chicken mains are mostly $21.99-$23.99.

I guess Butter Chicken ($21.99 at Aanch downtown) or the Biryani could be the price check dishes at Indian restaurants.

Here’s another vote for Lageez. I don’t get there all that often - it’s more than I like to drive for dinner out - but five of us, who live mostly in midtown - descended upon it a few weeks ago, and we all decided it was one of the best mid-level Indian joints in town. We ate exceedingly well for about $35 a person (tax and tip included). Good, easy-going service. The resto wasn’t busy at all - though there was a brisk takeout trade. Good parking space in front. Whoever’s in that kitchen, knows his/her stuff.

Another friend enjoyed Khau Gully recently.

I’m adding prices from @calam1ty ’s recent review from Indian Desire, a midrange Indian restaurant in the Annwx.

“They arrived in quite small containers perhaps 10cm diameter: A baigan bharta (15.95) and lamb korma (22.95). I can’t eat a lot of spices these days so I also ordered a raita (4.95). Two thin, flaky naan were served (5.95 each).”

Where would you recommend I try Lamb Dhansak in Toronto?
It’s on the menu at Savera http://www.saveraindiancuisine.ca/menu#

Good to know about Adrak. I was going to try the Richmond Hill location next week. Now I think I’ll delay until I see more reviews because they’re not exactly cheap.

I like Biryani N BarBQ https://biryaninbarbq.com It’s one of those places that I wouldn’t have gone in because of the name but it’s up there in the better spots we’ve been to over the past year. Note they have a separate takeout section with hot tables. We did dine in instead as they had a bigger menu.

We are talking about Khoja/ Khoji / East African Ismaili food in another thread.

Has anyone visited Pili Pili lately?

Or Simba Grill on Donlands?https://simbagrill.business.site/

Ended up at curryish tavern.
Had the pani puri
Delhi mule
Maharaja combo
Stuffed cheese omelette with masala ordered by the dining companion
Drink was strong.
Other dishes I think might be more appreciated by some I enjoyed the lamb sausage and spice on the Maharaja combo
Priced a bit high for the brunch it is jury is out for moi for now
