Randomness [DC and Greater Boston]

Trying to do something to counter the negativity I’ve been seeing on HO and beyond.

We went to DC for Spring Onion’s Feb vacation which didn’t amount to much, food-wise. I was also wicked sick which happened early on and on top of that, I had to work. There’s a new slightly sad free arcade area in Terminal C of Logan because it’s randomly tucked under a random escalator. We tried the Santarp’s outpost. Nothing to see here people. But even at the worst places at Logan, the folks working there are always very nice.

We had a fun time at Stan’s, which we picked only because we were picking up a car on our last day to go to Udvar-Hazy, which Spring onion didn’t remember from past visits.

Had other forgettable food (pizza, pasta, bagels).

B’s mentor (John Goodson, a pillar of primary care died before we went to DC. We went to the small funeral, which was catered by Saltbox Kitchen in Concord. Very good food which no one touched. I took a bunch to gave away as much as I could. The rest, I composted.

For people near Arlington, Prep NK now has a small grocery section. No pressure to buy. The young guys have carved out a warm welcoming space in what was a generic pizza shop many times over. We bought some pizza flour and delightful apples. I think some cheese, too.

We saw Dead as a Dodo from Norway at Emerson/Cutler on Sunday, which was wondrous. Beforehand, Spring Onion wanted ramen, so we hit up Tora Ramen. I wasn’t hungry enough for a bowl at 12:30 pm so I got a petite tofu app and a horse mackerel katsu app. Both tasty morsels. The guys hoovered their ramen (black garlic tonkatsu and shio tonkatsu). My stories of hanging out in Chinatown after the clubs let out went over Spring Onion’s head. We all remarked that the theater troupe, who are from Lofoten, which we visited in 2024, must have been horrified by how dirty Boston is.

There are more random musings, but I can’t sort them out right now. We’ll head to RI this upcoming weekend for 1 night and then head to VT the weekend after. Then it’s off to Puerto Rico for spring break. Of course, I shall report back!

I’m sorry to hear that! Lots of interesting stuff to be had in the greater DC area. I’m headed that way in a month or so and I’m trying to figure out if I can sneak in a few hours to visit Joon. (Work trip so…maybe?)

Appreciate the rest of the report for sure and I’ll definitely plan for some extra time for Terminal C arcade games next time I fly. I hope TSA is back in full operation by the time you head to PR; apparently the lines have been really, really long of late.

Meandering Musings of the Mind are always good. Thanks for the report! Safe travels to PR - enjoy the sunshine (which we had one glorious day of yesterday!).

Yes, I am painfully aware of this after 3 trips to DC in the last 4 years for SO’s Feb breaks. Museums always seem to take precedence over eating - the nerve!

Joon, which I initially thought was Korean from the name, looks fantastic! Hope you can fit that in - ya gotta eat, right?

And if you’re in a small market, such as St. Louis/Lambert, you can still arrive at 3 pm for a 5 pm flight to Seoul (true story…a dear friend was on the phone with me yesterday from her house until 2:30 pm and I’m like, dude, you need to go. She responded, chill, this is St. Louis. She got there in plenty of time).

This is a good moment to dream of your upcoming getaway. West coast of PR and Vieques were two of our favorite escapes from the cold in years past. Let your thoughts wander to the sunshine (yep, I am doing that a lot). Your physical selves will follow soon. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
