Random eats [Beacon Hill, Brookline MA, Riverside RI, Burlington MA, Arlington MA, Carlisle MA]

Lots of rando eats lately. Probably a lot more that I’m missing but :woman_shrugging: (I don’t have the energy to figure out how to change that from a blondie.)

A couple of weeks ago, we went to see one of my favorite bands of all time, Supergrass, in da big city. We parked at MGH, had a simple pub dinner at Harvard Gardens and walked over to House of Blues on Lansdowne. The guys love their burgers, I went lite with an hummus plate that was pretty good. Awesome show and we intersected with a ball game, so B and Spring Onion supplemented with an Italian sausage outside Fenway at 11 pm. We took a fun pedicab back to MGH and in bed by midnight. It’s good to be 10 when you have crazy parents!

We went down to RI for an annual tradition—the Jack O’Lantern Spectacular at Roger Williams Zoo. We started the day at Dune Brothers in Riverside with my parents (East Providence to outsiders). The usual gut-busting meal of fish and chips, crab roll, awesome RI clear clam chowder+clam cakes.

After School of Rock class last week, Spring Onion was starving so we went to the closest fast food, Burger King, which is anathema to me, but I gotta feed the kid. He wanted to eat in, and it was a little depressing in there (very 70’s decor), but you know what? The employees were kind to Spring Onion when he ordered and paid for his food while I hang back and sat at a table, and they made his food with a lot of care. Another family came in after us, an elderly couple with a Down Syndrome kid and they were equally kind to that family, who clearly enjoyed having a meal out. So, it’s my new favorite place. Even though I won’t touch the stuff (Spring Onion pleaded with me—look mom, they have Impossible Burgers! No dice, kid.)

We went to see an ABBA tribute band on Friday. We loved the ABBA Museum in Stockholm, so they are one of Spring Onion’s favorite bands. Beforehand, Spring Onion wanted sushi so we hit up our local sushi place, Sono. They always treat us very well.

Saturday, we met up with friends at an Oktoberfest at Clark Farm in Carlisle. We’ve never been—the farmstand is gorgeous, which is not surprising for that affluent town. Very similar offerings to our local, LexFarm. I love that the produce is not packed in plastic. Totally stocked up there on beautiful produce, bread from Bread Obsession, various sundries. Funny enough, Spring Onion won his heat of the pretzel-eating contest (pretzels were tied to strings and kids had to eat them no-hands…can I do that with other food and a roomful of other kids to motivate him to eat faster?!).

ETA: A few Fridays ago, I finally met my co-workers for the first time in the flesh (much like the HO get-together). We are basically an all-remote company. We had dinner at Bar Cino in Brookline which was decent (shared a tuna and beans app and got a cacio e pepe with clams…tasty but stingy with the clams). Then we headed to Fenway afterwards. Dang, it’s even more expensive there for beer and food than Iceland! The guys scored tickets and went to the game, too so I met up with them afterwards. Been a lot of late disco nights for Spring Onion lately!

ETA: We used to go to Fenway 10-25 games a year, so we’re used to sticker shock but even we were blown away.

Here, Biscuit the dog requires that I mention you were but a stone’s throw from the Carlisle location of Kimball Farm ice cream (which closes for the season on October 13). Fun stop if you’re out that way again. This is one of her favorite places because, ice cream.

Oh, Spring Onion definitely noticed it on our way home but we passed on it because he was packed to the gills after a burger lunch from the food truck (can’t recall which one it was) and the pretzel eating contest. We usually do the Westford location of Kimball because of all the carny rides.

Keen eye in spotting the ice cream stand. Well done!

That’s one order of the crazy fish and chips (which perhaps spent a wee too long in the deep fryer).

We are a family of sharks.

Me too on Rhode Island. Why aren’t clear RI clam chowder and clam cakes available Greater Boston?!!

RI has an enforceable trademark on them.

An update that the cherry tomatoes that I bought from Clark Farm are spectacular. B, who will eat anything, even commented on the awesomeness of them. If you are in the area, I urge you to pick up a pint or 2 (well-worth the $7.50/pint; we picked up 2). I can’t imagine they will be available much longer.

Gah…I’m procrastinating but Sunday’s Onion get-together has me excited about food again (I was in a food rut). Get back to work @digga!
