B and I went down to RI yesterday…for our house inspection! For HOs who have been following our Maine house-hunting saga, well, we ended up at the other end of New England. Before our early afternoon inspection, we wanted to grab lunch in Providence. But Mondays are tough for dining out in RI, as it is traditionally a day off for many restaurants. Julian’s, a place in my old neighborhood, had a small crowd of people waiting, which we couldn’t afford, time-wise. A quick search yielded Y Noodle and Bar, located in a cool, out-of-the way spot that is home to a cluster of interesting food and drink places (Fearless Fish Market, Moniker Brewery, The Slow Rhode, Bayberry Beer Hall, among others) and right around the corner from a place that’s been on my wishlist FOREVAH big king. Anyway, our lunch was good, certainly not mind-blowing, but tasty all the same. B’s Dan Dan noodles were a little odd - more sesame-forward than spicy and it was topped with shrimp tempura, with no ground protein but he liked it well enough. My Snow Mountain veggie ramen had the type of comforting bland-ish broth that I love on a chilly rainy day. It was creamy, tonkotsu-style, loaded with really good toothsome noodles (same as in B’s) and topped with a jammy egg that wasn’t so jammy as intended (?) (that went into B’s bowl because I turn my nose up to eggs) and a crispy veggie panjeon-esque flat fritter that reminded me exactly of something my mom used to make. We both liked the geeky labware water glasses. As we sat there, B remarked, “Providence is so cool.” Of course, I concur, Mr. digga!
ETA: The inspection went well and it’s all systems GO!
You Greater Boston HOs can’t get rid of me that easily - I am still firmly in Arlington. This will be a vacation home. B and I both feel incredibly lucky to have found this place. Expect more RI reports next year.
Digga, glad you will still be with us here on Boston board, thrilled for you for the purchase of the vacation home, and looking forward to reports from RI. I’ve used many of your RI reports in the past. Congratulations!
Digga, congrats on the house. Are you on the coast, perhaps neighbor to Taylor Swift? Looking forward to more reports from RI. Is Joyals Liquor still in business? Years since I made it but I recall loading up on some heavy-hitter Italian wines at reasonable prices.
