TASTE GOOD - Elmhurst
Solid rendang, good char kway teoh, lovely hainanese chicken. Place was full even late afternoon, which was nice to see.

A wander through Jackson Heights after ages yielded an excellent chicken samosa from Merit, along with some very good seekh kabab.
There’s a newish Bangladeshi place called Nabonno which replaced another similar spot. They were pretty deserted mid-afternoon, but the food looked pretty good.
The food trucks keep multiplying (6 or 7 serving pani puri / puchka / fuchka at last count), but a pic of duck bhuna caught my eye, and I’m going to have to go back to try it (shopping when very full from lunch is not conducive to buying more things to eat later).

thanks for trying this place, I’ve been wanting to go, seems like it’s worth a trip!
bhuna, courtesy of a google search, sounds fantastic!
I noticed the place @davecook recommended, taiwanese gourmet, was listed in the nyt top 100. Actually, I noticed quite a few of the places dave introduced us to are on the list which leads me to wonder if dave exchanges bon mots with the times reviewer.
best,
I satisfied a yen visiting this place - it is in no way connected with the old Taste Good on Doyers Street of fond memory. The rendang was great (mellow sweet spices including star anise, light on chili), the char kway teoh was good but a simple version - chicken was excellent They also have nice kaya (coconut milk pandan custard) and curry puffs with crisp lard pastry which definitely added to my weight challenge coming out of the trip to Elmhurst. Thanks to @Saregama for travelling all over Queens to get there!
wait, what is “live paratha”?
Most places have beef bhuna and goat bhuna, but duck is unusual.
The chicken was lovely, but I want to try more of the menu at Satay based on the rendang.
Haha
Probably means made to order - as in “live station” ![]()
