Hello. First time poster. As the title states I’m trying to find a bakery that makes good pumpernickel bread for sandwiches. The stuff in the grocery stores isn’t very good. I’m willing to go to San Jose but I don’t get to the city very often. Thank you for your help.
I’m not sure it’s just what you’re looking for, but have you tried Esther’s breads? They’re German style, hearty breads, some dark but not a plain pumpernickle per se. I think they’re delicious. You can get them at the bakery in Los Altos, some farmer’s markets and assorted independent grocery stores around the peninsula.
