I just got takeout from Prep NK for a family we don’t know at our school who is going through a medical crisis. The pizzas and salad looked great, as did the garlic knots. Spring Onion asked “why can’t we also have the same food?” B has always been lukewarm about their food, but not me. I got a side order of their lions mane “crab cake” and it may have convinced B to give them another try. The earnest guys who run the place have carved out a cozy space out of a former pizza joint, complete with an eating counter (kind of like Rendezvous) and nice wine and beer. I requested we go there tomorrow or Saturday for Mother’s Day.
Wow, I don’t remember an eating counter at Rendezvous in Central Square! Or maybe you mean that they did a great job with the conversion like Rendezvous did with their fast food predecessor. I look forward to your follow-up report!
Rendezvous had an eating counter at the right-hand side of the restaurant. I sat there many times in capable hands. I would often wonder what that space was when it was Burger King.
We ate-in Friday evening. Awesome service, food was a tad underwhelming but they were busy and also dealing with computer glitches. B got the chicken cutlet, thinking Spring Onion would share with him, but the kid didn’t want any. SO wanted pepperoni pizza, which the guys enjoyed. I got the lions mane crab cake again; it needed 1 minute more of pan-searing, but the flavor was there again. Potato wedges also needed a few minutes more (we brought them home for a crisping-up). There was a delicious-sounding risotto but I usually don’t love that (or paella) as my meal—too much rice (I’m more in the noodle camp). Delicious Italian Sauvignon blanc (that we toted home) and a couple of nice IPAs for B. We’ll return to eat in again, but maybe on a less-busy day. Not destination dining, but the high-quality ingredients and high-effort cooking will bring us back. Twas not inexpensive but we’re ok with that. Plus, I’m a habitual big tipper, sometimes to B’s chagrin.
Bonus aurora borealis sighting LATER (like 11 pm) that night at the Arlington Reservoir down the street from us. Why do we even bother going to Iceland?!
PS @youngho We looked more closely at the eating counter at PrepNK. There were people eating there but we both noticed that there is no over-hang to the counter so your legs are right up against the counter. I would not recommend eating at the counter.
Oh, I thought that was the bar area at Rendezvous. I had a different idea of what eating counter meant.
WOW on the aurora borealis pic!!!
The bar and eating area were the same place at Rendezvous, correct?
exactly the kind of laugh I love on Mother’s Day!
Yes, I think the bar and the counter seating area at Rendezvous were the same. It was so long ago, but I think I remember the counter seating was a bit lower than the actual bar. I ate in that area many times and so loved the food.
I have something of a photographic memory and that area was at the right, as you entered the restaurant.
