Another tosta mista from Café Bélem ($7.50 CAD)

I bought 6 pastels de nata from Bom Dia yesterday. They are sweeter and have a firmer filling than those at Café de Bélem.
For this sweeter, firmer style that predominates Toronto Portuguese bakeries. Bom Dia is my preferred bakery over Nova Era and Golden Wheat. A pastel de nata costs $2.90 at Bom Dia.
Bom Dia Café & Bakery on Queen. There is also a Danforth location now.

Another visit to Café Bélem today.
I bought a Bola de Berlim cream -stuffed fried doughnut since it’s Rosenmontag / Fat Monday, as well as an almond croissant for my dining companion.
No!!!
Luckily the Rogers Rd location will stay in business.
I wish there was a smaller location available for less rent closer to little Italy for Golden Wheat. I see regulars outside Golden Wheat every time I walk by.
National is the other affordable, down to earth option on College St. It’s tiny.
I wish there was another option with plenty of seating.
Brockton Bakery on Dundas W near Brock is the other option with a lot of space and seating inside. They never have had the space for some outdoor tables, like Golden Wheat has had.
Yes, it was also so reasonably priced.
Lots of traditional dishes at Vagueira on Runnymede.
And right opposite Flor do Ave is a pretty stocked Portuguese/Brazilian independent grocer.
Take-out from Chiado tonight
White grouper/ cherne/ wreckfish ($65)
Chocolate mousse ($19)

Everything was delicious! Complimentary bread and olives, too. Really nice staff .

Re: Octopus ($19)
Oops. The Octopus at Chiado was $65, not the $19 posted above. Sorry!
(@ipsedixit, would you mind changing the price to $65 in my earlier post?)
Nice that they’re still doing takeout.
I made the request as a walk-in, and they were gracious. I think they also appreciate the business on a Monday night.
They understand hospitality in the way I understand hospitality. I’m going to back soon.
It’s a relationship.
