The Frying Scotsman is a cart in the Alder Street food cart pod in downtown Portland, selling fish and chips and other Scottish delicacies like haggis, deep fried Mars bars, and Irn-Bru.
Had a regular-sized order of the haddock. Also wanted to get some mushy peas but they had run out that day. It’s served with a container of tartar sauce and a small coleslaw that was heavy on the onion. You can apply salt and malt vinegar at the counter.
Fries were thick cut and a little soggy, lacking the combination of crisp shell and fluffy interior that makes fries great. The haddock however was very good, with moist flaky fish and a nice crispy batter.
