Pochys Home Style South Indian restaurant

Yesterday, on a rainy afternoon on the first day of February, we decided to try Pochys Home Style South Indian restaurant for lunch. It opened April of last year. The menu is intriguing, with a variety of unique offerings. One section features chapati wraps with different fillings, listed as “Curry in Rolls” on the menu. Each order comes with two rolls, making it the perfect portion for lunch.

My husband and I ordered the Butter Chicken Masala Roll and the Chicken Tenali Kura Roll, so we could each try a different flavor. Both were excellent, but we slightly preferred the Chicken Tenali Kura Roll for its satisfying heat and deep, complex curry flavors. There were many other interesting sounding options on the menu, and I’m looking forward to trying more on our next visit.

The raita that accompanied the rolls was tasty, with layers of flavor from red onions, cilantro, and a spice I couldn’t quite pinpoint—possibly fenugreek. It had a subtle smoky depth that made it even more delicious.

We also picked up takeout for dinner, ordering the Chicken Biryani and Chicken 65—both of which were fantastic. The owner, who was super nice, comped us some raita with the dinner.

We’ll definitely be coming back, both for lunch and for more takeout. The restaurant has a mellow, casual vibe, but it’s clear that the focus is on delivering high-quality, flavorful food—and they succeed. It’s a fantastic addition to the East Bay’s Indian food scene.

Somewhat disappointed there are no seafood or lamb/goat dishes, just mostly chicken. Modest vegetarian variety. It would be interesting to try the Andhra curries against other Southern Indian restaurants. Andhra curries can be super-fiery and extremely complex in their spicing.

Great photos. Pls report back when you return and let us know what else you tried!

The chef mentioned they will be adding more dishes to the menu. I agree it would be awesome to have lamb/goat curries on the menu.

Was this the chicken 65? If so, it’s an interesting variation on the usual dry fried dish.

That is the Chicken 65 on top of rice they gave us. It was a good version. I like the version at Yak and Yeti in Napa too.

Is it common now that restaurants charge for raita? I thought it is standard with biryani. In fact, when they don’t give me I usually just ask for it.

It came with the curry rolls. Maybe you are correct and it came with the biryani. I am planning ion going back for lunch on Wednesday and will report back.

Thanks to this thread, I tried Pochys the other day (with two visiting friends, plus my 1-yr-old).

Everything was really high quality, and also quite spicy.

We had the Chicken Tenali roll, butter chicken w/ rice, and Chicken 65. Plus mango lassi, chai and a cardamom panna cotta. Aside from the panna cotta, everything was a bit too spicy for the kiddo, even the rice. Flavors were unlike other Indian food I’ve eaten in the USA, and everything was fresh and flavorful in addition to being spicy. Chicken 65 in particular was addictive.

Thanks to everyone who recommended this place!

I never ended up going for lunch Wednesday but got takeout for dinner Friday. Got the Village Chicken Curry and it was excellent.
