Pie and Mash NYT article

I don’t really eat pie and mash regularly. There’s a hipster pie cafe in my neighborhood which I’ve written about here:

Pie and Vinyl [Portsmouth, Southsea]

Pie and Vinyl is considered a bit of a Southsea institution - a record store with a tiny cafe within, with a menu of pie and mash. There is a pretty big selection of pies, including plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. I had a vegan pie (BBQ jackfruit), which was pretty good. Husband had steak and ale (he thought it was just ok). Friend had a vegetarian pie with mushrooms and asparagus cooked in white wine, as a meal with mash, mushy peas and gravy. But it’s a bit different to the classic London pie and mash with liquor. It’s a filling meal and very comforting on a cold day.
