Interesting. In the ensuing 6 hours, my 1st pic, which was mine, has disappeared.

Edit: and now it reappeared!
I have a lead - it has something to do with selecting my photos from the Google Photos app rather than in the device folder. I was able to upload multiple pics at once when I selected from my “recent modified files” phone folder.
