Procrastinating from work. Honestly, I can’t remember when I last posted, so I’m uploading indiscriminately (although chronologically) in parts because only 15 photos can be posted in 1 batch).
Lunch with mom and dad at Sun and Moon (Korean), East Providence; an oldie but goodie for mom and dad. Afterwards, stocked up on Korean food supplies next door.
Lunch with mom and dad at the Wharf Tavern, Warren RI (meh and bad service that day)
Dinner with the 3 of us + mom and dad at Bluewater Grill, Barrington RI. Boring coastal suburban food, but mom and dad were happy.
Loud college football lunch at the Local in East Providence, RI.
We’ve been eating a lot of sushi lately now that sake nigiri is officially Spring Onion’s favorite food of the moment. This was from our local place, Sono Sushi in Arlington.
Got a takeout splayed-out chicken with roasted veggies for mom and dad and delicious mushroom pasta for us from a local place, Prep Neighborhood Kitchen in Arlington
Dinner out at Union Square Bistro (in “The” Riverside RI, not NYC …the “The” I added is a RI inside joke) with just me, mom, and dad after dad’s recent brief hospital stay (he wandered off into the night and as result, was taken to the hospital for evaluation). Hilariously, what I thought was going to be a relaxing dinner turned out to be quite the opposite once the LOUD music trivia started up (at 6 pm!) and this place is TINY. Even more frustrating was I couldn’t answer any of the questions because it’s all current music that I have no clue about. We finished up quickly and skedaddled.
Lunch with just me, B, and Spring Onion one beautiful Sunday at the Guild in Warren RI.
Lunch at a place mom and dad used to frequent before they moved to NY (and now moved back to RI), Davenport’s in East Providence (they used to go to the Cumberland location; this is the “fancier” one).
Another dinner at Bluewater Grill in Barrington RI on another beautiful fall day.
Another lunch at the Guild in Warren RI. We love this place (sun-drenched oceanside location in a cool space) but we wish the food was better.
More sushi before going to the awesome Spooky Walk at Menotomy Rocks Park in Arlington. This time at Mr. Sushi in Arlington Center (we’d never been after a decade of living in Arlington). I had kimchee chigae.
Dinner on Friday night at Oxford Tavern in Barrington RI. SO tried a caper from his salmon dish but didn’t care for it. We’ll keep trying, as B and I love capers. Huge portions that all 5 of us brought home.
Finally, SO was a hot dog for the second year in a row. He loves that costume and says he’ll keep wearing it until he can’t fit.
ETA: I’ll try to add color commentary throughout at a later time. Or not.
Fun photo dump. Lining up the trick-or-treat haul for a linear maesurement? Our Spring Onion discovered capers early on, and we go through Costco-sized jars at a frightening clip… She turns 21 in January so we may have to retire the “Spring Onion” appellation. Or is a Spring Onion always a Spring Onion? She requested a foodie weekend in NYC for her birthday and I’m having fun scoping it out…
I know your pain. I largely stopped listening to new music in the noughts. I am a rock person. All this female pop stuff is a mystery to me. Once at work the young uns insisted I had to know a Taylor Swift song. I could not name a single tune. And I am good with that. The last new band that I can think of that is worth a damn is the Black Keys.
Lots of good eating there. Your boring suburban stuff is a lot more interesting than mine.
Is there a place called Local and Bluewater Grill required to be at least in every county?
My daughter has a playlist heavy on girls pop, but the occasional Traffic, Cream, Yes, …song will pop up. My reaction is always the same “how did you run across that?..” She dragged me to Boston Calling two summers ago, and to Roadrunner for “Men I Trust”. May not be your style (or mine) but there are some talented musicians. Quite a few are Berkeley grads.
Oh, and she took me to see Taylor Swift in Amsterdam. Came away with new respect for Swift.
This is great ! I drove by Sono early this afternoon wondered what you thought of it. Now I know. Sushi spread looks good. Likewise all pictures with clams, mussels and or squid is my thing. Thank you for your post. Brightened up a busy day.
@MaxEntropy good eye! It was cioppino, but meals there are overall boring because the dishes were lacking some oomph (i.e., watered down for “Bore-ington” palettes…yes, that’s how some people refer to Barrington).
