PHILLY EATZ — 34(+) Restaurants in 99 Days 🥳 [Philadelphia]

Here was a Philly Malaysian restaurant I was going to mention - Kampar, just written up last week in the NYT for its Ramly burger. www.kamparphilly.com. Been waiting for them to reopen to get down and try. Still havent located the name of the other indonesian place that sells very good stuff at an indonesian food shop in Queens.

Yup, on my list.

I live in Monmouth County NJ and work in the Philly area. As such many of my meals are nice but boring corporate things. Saloon in S. Philly is fun for an old school, albeit expensive, Italian steakhouse. Wm. Mulhern and sons was good but it was a couple years ago., etc. Too many upscale chain meals to count.

Angelo’s is my favorite for cheese steak, and the pizza is excellent as well. (I know the Philly natives may have something to say about that  )

TBH, that seems to be the current consensus. I’ve yet to try either but it will happen while we are down here, trust

Last month we stopped at Paesano’s for sandwiches while visiting PHL. They were delicious and HUGE. We shared the Arista and the Liverace

Peter was featured in Bourdain’s Philly episode a long time ago. He’s quite the character. He used to run an Italian place on the first floor of a friend’s building, so we went there a few times.

Paesano’s sammiches are the bomb!

Wonderful selection of smoked fish, caviar & roe at Biederman’s at the Italian Market. This is where I treated myself to a large jar of trout roe for our traditional anniversary trip last December. They also offer a few different cream cheeses, bagels, fancy jams & mustards, etc.

Made myself a lunch with all Biederman’s ingredients: smoked steelhead on poppyseed bagel with capers & cream cheese. Great & knowledgeable staff, too.

Mighty Bread Co. is a hugely popular bakery in walking distance from our pad. I found out about their existence when one of our favorite Philly restaurants posted yet another fabulous toast creation on Facebook, and I asked where they get their sourdough.

Now we get it, too  They also offer various quiches and salads for lunch in a bright, modern, open cafe space, with a handful of tables in the courtyard next door.

Such a nice neighborhood spot, and everyone is so friendly and chill :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Angelo’s Pizzeria. What can be said about this place that hasn’t already been said? Nothing, really.

The pie is the bomb. We had 3 slices of the Diavlo pie with Italian long hots, hot sausage, homemade arrabbiata, RPF, fresh garlic. No hot sauce needed!

I bet you @Maribel and @Madrid would both be more than happy to give you recommendations! Mangia, mangia!

Not on the list, but the beauty of exploring a city is, to a large measure, random discoveries

While hoofing through the sweltering city, we came across this gem: a fully vegan dessert shop :star_struck:

From the menu that offers any variety of toppings (nuts, fruit, sprinkles, sauces)

we shared a “plain” frozen banana with whipped coconut milk, raw walnuts and homemade chocolate sauce.

It was absolutely delicious — very banana-y, not too sweet, super-creamy, yet not nearly as filling as dairy-based ice cream. I’m about as far from veganism as culinarily possible, but I could (and will) absolutely get this again. $7 might seem a lot for the base, but it is a very generous portion that even the two of us couldn’t finish.
