[Penang] Michelin Bib Gourmand-listed Ghee Lian's Green Tom Yum Noodles

The latest Michelin Guide article spotlights Ghee Lian, located at George Town’s historic Esplanade.

A queue usually forms in front of Ghee Lian up to half an hour before it opens for business at 6pm.

Ghee Lian’s ultra-popular “green tom yum noodles” actually bore no resemblance, taste-wise, to its Thai counterpart, which the dish co-opted it name from.
Super-fresh seafood used here - the batter-fried fish fillets were absolutely scrumptious.

Best dining option when one is at the Esplanade in the evening:

Back to Michelin Bib Gourmand-listed Ghee Lian last night, and the 30-minute queue was still perpetually present.

Still the most addictive green tom yum noodles we’d ever encountered in Penang. 90% of their customers come for this particular dish.

The other popular dish is fried bee hoon (rice vermicelli) served with batter-fried fish fillets. I actually prefer this dish.

Ghee Lian opens at 6pm each day, but a long queue starts forming by 5.30pm. Service is pretty quick, though.
