[Penang, Malaysia] Spedahub Cafe, Balik Pulau

This rustic, tin-roofed little cafe is located in a tiny Chinese fishing village in the middle of nowhere. Owned by a cycling enthusiast, Magnum Oh, who also brews a mean cup of coffee, his little place is a popular pit-stop amongst cyclists and bikers who frequent the cycling trails of hilly Balik Pulau.

Some of the snacks served there:

  1. Lamb Bamiah - Hadrami-Arab lamb and okra stew, serve with toasted sourdough. Very tasty version.

  2. Potato mayo sandwich - a carb-on-carb creation with toasted wholemeal bread sandwiching potato salad, lettuce, tomato and cucumber.

  3. Butter-and-kaya toast

  4. Nutmeg jam, butter and toast

Some of the strongest coffee brews we’d ever tasted - these were the cappuccinos.

Iced premium milk tea.

Iced cendol coffee - a rather strange drink-cum-dessert creation.

Nice spot to rehydrate and recharge on one’s cycling excursion.

I like the sound of nutmeg jam.

I see I can get it online from a Caribbean foods supplier. One to try.
