Dinner at π¦πΌπΌπ± π―π ππ΅π²π³ π§πΌπ», the newest Thai restaurant in Penang, a joint venture involving Thitid βTonβ Tassanakajohn of 1-MICHELIN-star Le Du in Bangkok.
Wrought-iron sculpture based upon the equestrian statue of the Thai King Rama V @ King Chulalongkorn.
At the moment, consultant-chef, Natthasak βNutβ Prangthong, ex-Bo.Lan Bangkok, is running the kitchen, whilst getting the local chefs up to speed. Our dinner spread yesterday evening:
Brioche Toast with Uni & Chili Jam
Crispy Fish Flake Salad - apple, mango, shallot with dressing, topped with crispy fish
Papaya Salad with Long Beans, Cherry Tomatoes, Chillis and Salted Egg Yolk - weβd asked for βmedium spicyβ, but the one we got was incendiary!
Watermelon Fish Powder Caviar - Dried Fish, Caviar, Tomato Jelly, Watermelon Jelly
Botan Ebi Marinated with Fish Sauce, Lime Juice and Thai Herbs
Grilled Squid with Passionfruit Sauce - with Cha-Om
Thai Crab Omelette with Sriracha Sauce - this was easily the best dish we had. Shades of the version by Bangkokβs iconic Jay Fai.
Red Curry Striploin (Medium Rare) with Caramelised Banana - very much dialed-down flavors here.
Desserts:
Mango Sticky Rice Parfait with Pandan Ice-cream
Lod Chong (Thai Cendol) with Coconut Ice-cream, Yam Bean & Jackfruit
Overall, a nice experience - the restaurant fills a niche in Penang for modern-Thai fine dining. KL has one in the new 1-MICHELIN-starred Chim by Chef Noom.
