Back to Wen Chang Hainan Chicken Rice for lunch today. Whilst I still enjoy its offerings, I’d rank this place behind these two others nowadays, in terms of taste, texture and presentation of the poached chicken:
-
Best in town would be Foong’s Hainan Chicken Rice
[Penang, Malaysia] Foong's Hainan Chicken Rice, Hutton Lane -
Second best is Heng’s Sri Bahari Hainan Chicken Rice
[Penang] Heng's Sri Bahari Hainan Chicken Rice
But one thing Wen Chang Hainan Chicken Rice has got going for itself is the superior quality rice used here.
George Town’s large Hokkien and Teochew populace, which make up the bulk of the clientele here, means that Lim’s offerings show influences from both other culinary cultures: soy-braised eggs, and Fujianese pan-fried 5-spiced meat rolls or “ngor hiang”, called “lor bak” in Penang, and Teochew-style soy-braised tofu are offered here.
