Most Penangites will know Mrs Tan aka Madam Phang Eng Sim, who runs the famous vegetarian ๐ค๐ถ๐ณ๐ณ๐บ ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฆ stall at Free School Road during the โ๐๐ฒ๐ ๐ข๐ป๐ด ๐ฌ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ตโ (Nine Emperor Godsโ or Vegetarian) festival for the past four decades.
At other times of the year, she would be running her famous ๐๐ป๐ด ๐ฆ๐ถ๐บ ๐๐ผ๐ธ๐ธ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป ๐ ๐ฒ๐ฒ stall at BK Cafe, on the corner of Perak Road and Jalan Pasar. But Madam Phang decided to close her famous ๐๐ฐ๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ช๐ฆ๐ฏ ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฆ stall earlier this year because, in her words, itโs hard to get good workers to help her.
Thankfully for us food-lovers, Madam Phang has decided to make a comeback recently with a kick-ass ๐ญ๐ข๐ฎ ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฆ stall, situated along Jalan Pasar, opposite the Perak Road Market building and a mere few steps from where her old ๐๐ฐ๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ช๐ฆ๐ฏ ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฆ stall was situated.
Now, Madam Phangโs ๐๐ป๐ด ๐ฆ๐ถ๐บ ๐๐ฎ๐บ ๐ ๐ฒ๐ฒ serves some of the tastiest ๐ญ๐ข๐ฎ ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฆ in town! A mix of Hokkien mee and bee hoon, in a light, tasty flavoursome pork-prawn broth, garnished with prawns, pork, egg omelette strips, beansprouts, parsley, scallions and โbak eu pokโ (golden-brown lardons). A spoonful of chili paste gives oneโs bowl of noodles a spike of heat. Super-delicious!
We were here this evening for a late supper: the stall operates through the night, from 10pm to 10am the next morning, on Tue, Thu, Fri and Sat.
Business gets really busy after midnight!
