Dinner this evening at ๐ก๐๐ฃ! on Campbell Street, helmed by talented young duo, Goh Chia Ye and Koh Yee Ming, whoโd spent a decade in Singapore working under celebrity-chef and Masterchef Singapore judge, Bjorn Shen, before returning to Penang to ply their trade.
Dining room is a nifty little space with seats along one long counter, somewhat reminiscent of an izakaya eatery.
NEP!'s menu changes periodically, and its current one is inspired by the duoโs recent holiday in Korea.
Our dinner this evening:
- ๐๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฃ๐ข๐ฏ๐จ ๐๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐จ - fried cauliflower, sour plum and shredded wild betel leaves.
- ๐๐ข๐ด๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฃ๐ถ๐ณ ๐๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ฏ - Korean-style ๐ซ๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ฏ (mung bean pancake) , julienned jicama & cucumber, and ๐ฌ๐ฐ๐ค๐ฉ๐ถ๐ซ๐ข๐ฏ๐จ (spicy fermented bean and chili paste). Itโs accompanied by ๐ฎ๐ข๐ฌ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ญ๐ญ๐ช (Korean fermented rice wine).
- ๐๐ด๐ข๐ฎ๐ญ๐บ ๐๐ถ๐ณ๐จ๐ฆ๐ณ - Korean pork burger - itโs more akin to ๐ฅ๐ธ๐ข๐ฆ๐ซ๐ช ๐ฃ๐ฆ๐ฐ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฐ, but the menu description lists it as tteokgalbi. Itโs served with ๐ฌ๐ฐ๐ค๐ฉ๐ถ๐จ๐ข๐ฏ๐จ ๐ข๐ช๐ฐ๐ญ๐ช, a very good ๐ฌ๐ช๐ฎ๐ค๐ฉ๐ช relish and ๐ด๐ด๐ข๐ฎ lettuce-and-perilla wrap.
- ๐๐ช๐ฃ๐ช๐ฎ ๐๐ข๐ฏ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฏ ๐๐ฆ๐ซ๐ถ๐ฌ - cold glass noodles, ๐ถ๐ญ๐ข๐ฎ (mixed vegetables), ๐ด๐ข๐ฎ๐ฃ๐ข๐ญ ๐ฃ๐ฆ๐ญ๐ข๐ค๐ฉ๐ข๐ฏ, raw oysters, and calamansi lime.
- ๐๐ต๐ช๐ค๐ฌ๐บ ๐๐ฌ๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ฑ๐ฅ๐ฆ๐จ๐ช - grilled pork skin, ๐ต๐ข๐ถ ๐บ๐ฆ๐ธ ๐ฃ๐ข๐ฌ soy glaze, wok-fried vegetables.
