Celebrating the birthday of an old friend with a very nice Chinese dinner at ๐๐ป๐ผ๐๐ข๐ฎ in Gurney Paragon yesterday evening.
Our dinner at the quirky marine-themed eatery was prepared by a very talented kitchen team who produced the perfect Peking duck - as good as the one at Beijingโs much-acclaimed ๐๐ฎ ๐๐ผ๐ป๐ด, I kid you not!
The dinner spread:
Old Shanghai caramelized smoked fish fillets.
Hangzhou-style spicy pickled radish batonnets.
Traditional Peking duck, served with pancakes and condiments.
This dish here scores a 10 out of 10, in my books!
The accompaniments consist of ๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ช ๐ด๐ช๐ฏ sauce, leeks, cucumbers, pink-tinted pickled radish and granulated white sugar, reminiscent of the style at ๐๐ฎ ๐๐ผ๐ป๐ด, a top-rated Peking duck restaurant in Beijing.
The perfect Peking duck, with crisp, gossamer-thin skin, just has to be the best Iโd had in recent memory.
Traditional Peking duck, served with leeks & preserved radish, and a dollop of ๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ช ๐ด๐ช๐ฏ sauce on steamed wheat pancake wrap. Cucumber batonnets are served on the side as palate-cleansers.
Peking duck bones, Chinese white cabbage and tofu soup.
Braised whole abalone atop taro, served with black truffle sauce.
Crisp-battered prawns with honey-mustard glaze.
Pearl garoupa cooked two-ways: Cantonese-style steamed fillets, and crisp-battered fish-bones.
Old Beijing-style stir-fried eggplant, with balsamic glaze.
Desserts: Two types of homemade birthday cakes specially brought in for the โbirthday girlโ.
Very impressive cooking and presentation by the restaurant.
