๐๐น๐ถ ๐ก๐ฎ๐๐ถ ๐๐ฒ๐บ๐ฎ๐ธ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ป ๐ฃ๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ด at Sri Weld Food Court is Penangโs most famous ๐ฏ๐ข๐ด๐ช ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ข๐ฌ stall. This Michelin-listed eatery serves compact banana leaf-wrapped cones of fiery-hot nasi lemak.
Mansor bin Musa, known by his nickname โAliโ. An Indonesian friend shared the recipe for ๐ฏ๐ข๐ด๐ช ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ข๐ฌ with Mansor, who supplemented his income by selling ๐ฏ๐ข๐ด๐ช ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ข๐ฌ together with his wife, Wasnita binti Idris, known to her customers today as โKak Iwasโ.
Their ๐ฏ๐ข๐ด๐ช ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ข๐ฌ is justly famous today for their incendiary, tongue-numbing sambal sauce, often poured liberally over a mound of nasi lemak.
One can choose from a selection of sides to go with oneโs ๐ฏ๐ข๐ด๐ช ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ข๐ฌ: crisp-fried ikan bilis, fish, salted fish, chicken, squid, tiny shrimps, and hard-boiled egg.
Mansor bin Musa passed away in 2016. Today, his son, Safiq bin Mansor, carries on his food-loving fatherโs legacy, running ๐๐น๐ถ ๐ก๐ฎ๐๐ถ ๐๐ฒ๐บ๐ฎ๐ธ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ป ๐ฃ๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ด together with his mother, Kak Iwas, and a bevy of chatty Indonesian workers.
The queue at this stall is never-ending, as chili-heads can never seem to get enough of their palate-numbing offerings.
Each packet of nasi lemak costs a mere MYR 3 (US$0.65 or ยฃ0.50).
