[Penang] Jawi-Peranakan food at Jawi House, Armenian Street

Jawi House on Armenian Street serves the relatively hard-to-find Jawi Peranakan food, a centuries-old fusion cuisine amalgamating Malay, Persian, Afghan and Northern Indian flavours into a culinary tradition unique to Penang, with offshoot versions in Singapore and Malacca.

  1. Levant Platter - Hummous, Baba Ganoush & Armenian salad with pita bread & crackers.

  2. Roti surai (lacey pancakes) served with chicken-and-potato curry.

  3. Herbal Lemuni Rice - steamed rice cooked with ground lemuni leaves, tinted blue using bunga telang, and flavoured with coconut milk, onions, ginger, garlic and lemongrass.

  4. Chicken curry served with Lemuni Rice.

  5. Jawi Biryani Rice with marinated lamb.

Red Arabian sherbet - with rose syrup, malva nut gum resin and basil seeds.
