[Penang] Hakka lunch @ Tofu Village, Church Street

This latest Hakka eatery to open in downtown George Town is a breath of fresh air in a city where the Chinese culinary scene is dominated by Hokkien and Teochew eateries.

Spiffy little place, more café than a proper restaurant.

  1. Hakka taro abacus beads.

  2. Hakka crisp-fried pork.

  3. Nan Ru Chicken.

  4. Hakka noodles with minced pork, dressed in lard.

  5. Hakka ngiong tiew foo (assorted tofu and vegetables stuffed with pork-fish forcemeat)

  6. Hakka claypot stew with beanpaste.

Heh-heh.
Hey, Panda Express was my lifeline after spending a couple of weeks away from Singapore when I was in Denver once.

Yes, even Panda Express looked pretty good when I worked a couple of summers in downtown Chicago, which had no decent Chinese near the office.
