Penang has seen a proliferation of Thai eateries in the last 3 years, and Asok 35 is a new venture by Michelin-Select Thara, located just a few doors down on the same street. But Thara provides full Thai dinner spreads, whilst Asok 35’s offerings are more casual one-plate meals.
Asok also takes up a smaller space, and rather spartan in appearance.
Our dinner this evening:
Spicy Thai-style green papaya salad (som tum)
Thai green chicken curry, served with crispy noodles
Thai red curry with minced chicken & coconut milk, served with kanom jeen (fresh Thai rice noodles)
Northern Thai chicken curry noodles (khao soi)
Super-spicy food here - I’m no chili-head, so had to struggle through my food here. Thai iced milk tea - two types are available: the normal tea and the matcha green tea - were a great help to douse the heat.
