Better in what respect?

For example, I love pistachio ice cream. But then, I’ve never tried (or even seen) pecan ice cream. On the other hand, I love pecan pie but have never tried (or seen) similar made with pistachios.

don’t know if can swim and there, but in the US butter pecan ice cream is a ‘standard offering’

Im with Harters. Deoends entirely on context.

I don’t see them as similar enough to sub for one another. Pistachios are better in some things, and pecans are better in other things.

Definitely try butter pecan ice cream or pralines and cream ice cream, should you have an opportunity to visit North America again.

They are not like pistachio ice cream, in that the cream base of the ice cream is not as heavy with the nut flavour as in pistachio ice cream.

There are clusters of candied pecans in a vanilla or sweet cream base in Pralines and Cream.

I realize comparing apples and oranges when I ask which is the better nut.

Which would you choose if you could only choose 1?

Which do you typically prefer?

I suppose I am a free spirit in that I substitute various nuts for one another all the time.

I would make kourabiedes / Russian tea cakes / Mexican wedding cake cookies, fruitcake, or baklava with pecans, pistachios, almonds, or walnuts.
.

I would use any of those 4 nuts on salmon with maple syrup, or in stuffing, or Waldorf salad.

I prefer chocolate covered almost or pecans to chocolate covered pistachios.

I prefer pecan butter on toast to almond butter or pistachio butter on toast.

I think I have pistachio fatigue. LOL.

What are the dishes where a pistachio works and a pecan doesn’t work ?

Other than pistachio gelato , Watergate salad, and pecan pie?

this is another tart that’s similar to pecan pie, which uses a mixture of nuts.

Musicians Tart is also a similar idea, and traditionally would use whichever nuts and fruits are on hand . While notmmmm pecans and pistachios together would not be traditional in Catalonia, the original idea was to use up what fruits and nuts the musicians were paid with

on the topic of pistachio tarts, this looks interesting

Pecan for sure here in Texas. We had a tree in our yard when I was young, then moved to an acre and a half lot on a creek and had many. Not good quality, very difficult to open, and first you had to beat the squirrels to 'em. Pistachios not as readily available but when I have 'em, they don’t last long.

Recently re-discovered kulfi at an Indian grocery in the form of Shahi Kulfi bars. Best flavor I’ve had by far is pistachio.

Mine looked better than that :face_savoring_food:

I will be buying that again, perhaps by the case, and looking for pistachio kulfi in cartons.

So butter pecan ice cream and pistachio kulfi are going to be my two favorite ice creams.

Pecans if they’re very fresh. Pistachios seem to do better over the long-term.
