Hi again. I discovered this board quite recently and have spent the last few days reading all of your posts. What a wonderful resource!
We’re a group of 4 with a few days in Paris in July. Two vegetarians. The plan is to get at least a few reservations in place, but I don’t want to book multiple upscale tasting menus this time around. Instead, I’m trying to book a variety of places, some contingent on location, some on style, and thus I turn to you with questions:
Any thoughts on De l’usine and/or Comice? I don’t see much on either place on this board.
Are you still lukewarm on Ellsworth? It caught my eye because of the multiple vegetarian options. I know that nowadays most restaurants will accommodate a vegetarian diet, but am looking for a couple of places with some vegetarian offerings on an otherwise omnivore menu.
Additionally, I’m currently leaning towards Eels, Juveniles, and/or Bouillon Pigalle for lunch. What are your thoughts on those?
Otherwise, au moulin au vent because it’s close to where we’re staying, and maybe Kubri and Oxymore for variety.
And, finally, I would be grateful for recommendations for your favorite food markets, cheese shops, ice cream shops, or any other incontournables, particularly of the sweet variety.
I did see your terrific review, thank you, but you seem to be the only person on this board who has shared an opinion on the place. Glad to hear your second visit was as successful as the first.
One needs to understand that HO enjoys the input of several very frequent and discerning Paris diners. These posters represent the best of food commentary regardless of source. They are months ahead of both press and tourist blogs.
Their taste is impeccable as is their concern for service and value. Do not expect to read reports on dining rooms already dominated by tourists.
We will be dining at Cafe de l’Usine this evening and will repot back. I can confirm we recieved a text this morning from them confirming our reservation and asking about allergies, and are looking forward to our visit.
For Comice - we dined there in December 2024 and had a great experience! We made an immediate connection as Etheliya, the sommelier and Co-Owner knows one of our good friends back in he US. While we go back to Comice and it was a great excuse to get over the 16th which we rarely visit, if we had to choose between Alliance and Comice, we would choose Alliance in the 5th.
I cannot comment on the other places you listed, but would present for your consideration Godaille in the 11th.
