Friend wanted a ‘big f**k-off slice of cake with tea’ (Australians, hey?) so I took us to the Parade Tea Rooms, which specialises in exactly that, plus hearty lunches. We only did tea and cake, selecting from the big refrigerated glass display case. Vegan salted caramel and dark chocolate cake for friend and me, classic carrot cake for my husband. Double espresso for me, pot of tea for others. Slices of cake were massive - we had to pack the leftovers to bring home. Lovely light room overlooking the green of Southsea Common.
