Heading to Page, Arizona for a one day around Antelope Canyon. Any recommendations for eats around the area? Thanks!
We also stayed for only 1 night and rolled into town quite late. B got takeout from Paco Taco, which was open at that late hour. I remember him saying his burrito was fine. My kid and I ate instant noodles in the hotel room.
Lots of tour groups, even as the pandemic was just starting. Nevertheless, it was a fun experience.
I think we only ate lunch there and I remember nothing about it, so it must not have been very exciting. If you are headed to/from the Grand Canyon, I can recommend the restaurant at Cameron Trading Post, or at least their green chile stew. We stayed and ate there en route from the Grand Canyon to Antelope Canyon and it was very fine.
I had my first encounter with fry bread there.
Tapatio and Escobar’s both are good. We camped in Page for a couple days on our 5 week trip around the country. We rented a boat one day, and took a tour up to Rainbow Bridge – which is truly awe-inspiring.
All the food in Page is pretty much mediocre.
Best bet is to find a restaurant with strong air conditioning. And cold drinks.
Why is this in “Americas, Middle East, Africa”? Shouldn’t it be in “Texas, Southwest”?
Fixed.
How does fry bread or Navajo taco taste?
It’s like a funnel cake or fried dough as they call it out east, without the powdered sugar. Not much flavor per se, but fresh out of the fryer, it was a good vehicle to dip into chili. Definitely not health food if you are concerned about that sort of thing.
It’s like an open-faced Taco Bell crunchwrap.
And given the choice, I would choose Taco Bell … Run for the border!
In New Mexico it tastes like thick bread fried. No need to try again.
The Navajo fry bread experience requires using it a a folder for mutton and green chiles.
LP Italian Deli looked a lot better than the taste of their food. Big city prices. Probably better for getting Italian provisions than the food. Don’t bother.
We left Grand Canyon late. By the time we started driving, it was already almost completely dark. No way that we would make it to Page and still had anything to eat. So we stopped at Cameron Trading Post, which was a good call, because there was pretty much nothing an hour before, and an hour after. Just the long straight road, the mesa, and complete darkness.
I haven’t seen properly cooked entrees at a sit down restaurant under $10 for a long time. Even a fast food meal cost more than that these days.

Portions were huge. Stews were comfy. Much better than the food at twice the price from Page. Good place to stop for Navajo food, souvenirs made on the reservation. Not fancy food, just good ol comfort food.
I’m glad my recommendation helped you out! Yes, it’s not fine dining but the food was very tasty. And in a place with a completely captive audience (i.e. there’s no place else to eat within many miles), they are not just phoning it in.
