Oxtail Is Gaining Fans. Not Everyone Is Happy About That.

So… what’s a guy gotta do to go ocean fishing with mr bean??

Most of his serious fishing is on his friends boat. I’ll let him know you’re interested in going when he takes his. Do you fish?

Your not overstepping at all. The friend he goes with is very “particular” but I’ll let you know when he might be going out on our boat.

What do you guys catch?

NOT oxtail, presumably

Primarily sea bass, striped bass, and fluke (summer flounder). Depending upon the season they’ll pull in bluefish, ling, tautog/blackfish, ling, skate, eel. When they’re running they’ll go out for tuna every chance they can.

These are hard core fishers, usually pulling away from the dock by by 6:30 am and won’t stop until they limit out. I’m the cook once the fish are on land.

You ever do sashimi? Fluke in particular is a korean favorite. Koreans will filet and eat those right on the boat!

Sure do! If they get tuna we almost never cook it.

I have never seen oxtails in the store that are the size pictured in this thread. Those are humongous!! Mother would make us oxtail soup to go with grilled cheese sandwiches. Oxtail soup from an envelope, probably Knorr or something like that. Tear open, add water and heat. I think it was maybe tomato based. Had no idea then that oxtail was beef.

I put this together for some friends the last time they had a block of tuna they caught! Such a treat. Make your own sushi roll party.

What a great idea! Last year was great for tuna fishing hopefully this year will be too.

Not sure how this tread got changed to sashimi but I love Oxtails. My wife not so much. She would be happier with sashimi

I have mentally toyed with the idea if (cooked) shredded oxtail and raw oyster tartare. Maybe a kiss of horseradish. It works in my mind.

Sounds like a hoot. I have a fishing pal who will NOY return to shore until we catch our limit of walleye. Spent all night in the cold cold rain on the mighty Miss one time. 9.5 hours. Got our limit. Still, that was my last marathon with him. Comes to a point you say “pss on it.” Oh, but not not with Keith. Then you come home whopped and clean those suckers.

Usually the ones I get are smaller than those, too.

There must something in the water. Everyone I know who fishes - including Mr Bean and The Sprout -are little bit crazy.

Northern WI for me. Smaller water, but some big fish if you’re lucky. Best week of the year for me. Kill a lot of ulcers in one week. Honestly, the simple pleasure of catching, filleting and enjoying the fish come in second to the bond with nature. Fishing ain’t catching and, even when I’m not catching, I’m in heaven.
