Outage on 5/29/26

There was an outage yesterday from 10:25pm. IT-speak: It was because the usually harmless unattended system updates upgraded Docker to a more recent version, unintentionally crashing the site. I’ve configured the updates to exclude Docker.

I initially read the title as “Outrage on 5/29/26”. I was briefly confused.

Given the times we live in I understand completely

Outage and outrage often go hand-in-hand.

My full first thought was, “What? So what else is new?”

I could never feel outrage toward HungryOnion! Sad disappointment perhaps, but never outrage.

Thanks for the action. Would it be possible to post an announcement in Facebook’s HO group when this happens? https://www.facebook.com/hungryonion1

Well, there was when we couldnt access HO this morning (not AT Hungry Onion; just when I couldn’t access it!!) So you’re not wrong.

Really? That page hasn’t been active in 4 years.

Sure, but it is still open for use. Another system I’m on uses their FB group to report outages.

Yes, if its something I can’t fix quickly and an announcement can be made there. This time I noticed it only this am and it was back up in a few minutes.

Something is still a bit wonky. This happened twice just now when I reloaded the Boston area page:

Edit: Tried it on a different computer, on which I’ve never visited HO before, and it happened there too. So it’s not just me.

can you elaborate more? i looked at the image and I couldn’t spot what’s wrong.

It renders the top few posts, seems to stop rendering on that Oleana post, and then repeats the header just below it, and if I scroll down sometimes the entire thing will repeat three or four times. Sometimes only once. I see the same on any of the regional topic areas. Does it not happen on your end?

Same for me

Me too, and another weirdness: I pressed the Onion logo and the title, to get to the home page. It just reloaded the Cooking index page. I right-clicked and opened in another tab, and it went to the home page.

Ok i see it. I fixed it. It was because when certain plugin updated itself today, which was incompatible with the version of the forum software used. I updated the forum software and all seems fine.
