Americans have a very limited knowledge of history period. I’m often appalled by how little my contemporaries, let alone the younger generations know. I sometimes even question whether my sisters grew up in the same household as I . My parents were into history and passed it on to me. I’m sure it helps that I grew up in Philadelphia with its historical sites and in close proximity to weekend visits to many Revolutionary and Civil War sites.
Yeah, they tend to be sneaky like that.
By the by, my grandfather joined up in January 1915, going overseas in the November. He served with his brother until the latter was wounded at some point. Brother recovered at some point and was transferred to another regiment in1918 and was killed in the September. Grandad’s unit was all but wiped out in major German attacks in March and April 1918 and never saw action again. As far as I know, he remained with the unit through the summer when they spent their time training newly arrived American battalions - mainly National Guard units from New York.
Grace Kelly.
I’m usually confused with Cary Grant in “North by Northwest.” Eva Marie Saint was in this picture.
Some say I resemble Rock Hudson in “Giant,” married to Elizabeth Taylor, of course.
We knew you were paying attention. You coulda said Tippi Hedren or Kim Novak and the joke would still work !
That was not the Germans being sneaky. It was the French being stupid.
“For sale: historic French army rifle. Never used. Dropped once.” grin
I’ve been told I look like Richard Dreyfuss in “Jaws.” Especially when I’m wet. Not something I’m particularly proud of.
Oy, that’s the old parlor game: If you were casting the movie about you, who would play you?
Did you read the Peter Benchley novel? It does not end well for your character. He is killed and the following is graphic, eaten.
I tell my students that I’m 39, just like Jack Benny. Of course they have no idea who that is, but it seems to satisfy them. I guess they’re used to odd answers from me. I tell them that a broken blood vessel on my ankle is either an old fencing scar or where a horse stepped on me, depending on my mood…
Is that from moving stolen property?
Ha ha - good one. Maybe I’ll let the students choose…
We have no such laws here in NJ!
Isn’t she in that bird movie with Robert Redford or was it Errol Flynn slaying thousands of birds with his trusty sword in that swashbuckling manner of his.
Politics aside, I want to thank Britain for standing by the United States all these years. Margaret Thatcher, Tony Blair…
True but most grocery stores don’t sell wine or beer. In NY you can walk into Target and pickup a six pack. You should have seen my bill while The Sprout was in college.
Not “Bye Bye Birdie” and to answer directly – yes, though we’d guess without search engine help, her daughter might have accumulated more credits than she did.
Back to Hitchcock and if memory serves and again without search engine help, Suzanne Pleshette (of remarkable vocal timbre) was also in Hitchcock’s avian account.
Absolutely. A stunning beauty and Doctor Robert Hartley’s wife on the Bob Newhart Show.
She doesn’t do so well!
We thought she was way too good for Bob . . .
whose office was shown to be atop this culinary landmark:
