OT Other things to do during the quarantine

Yes it does. But it doesn’t cover areas that are not densely populated nor does it cover poverty-stricken areas. Just one reason I don’t subscribe to Comcast.

You are right, and I heard a radio discussion that explained TP shortages in even more detail. They said that for the most part, commercial and home TP is made by completely different companies. Because it is bulky, it is costly to warehouse and is therefore manufactured in quantities expected to suit a continuous order volume. With people staying home, the demand spiked suddenly, with no reerve inventory to supply it. Supermarket customers might be willing to buy commercial TP, but the grocery chains had no preexisting business relationships with the institutional TP producers. The converse would be like Disney World expecting to buy all its popcorn at Piggly Wiggly.

Not “gaps” at end of day; different markets for same commodities require different supply chains.

Organized by Andrew Lloyd-Webber, YouTube 's The Shows Must Go On channel has musicals debuting on Fridays. The first was a ride in the wayback machine - Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, with a young Donnie Osmond. Not my cuppa, but the latest is a filmed live performance of Phantom of the Opera, staged at London’s Royal Albert Hallin 2011 to mark the musical’s 25th anniversary. The melodies are lovely, the Sergei Polunin’s dance solo in the first act is jawdropping, and Ramin Karimloo is poignant and affecting in the title role. His voice and performance are superior to that of the originator, Michael Crawford, who appears after the finale, along with other original cast members, in a brief commemoration of the anniversary. But please, somebody handcuff Sarah Brightman so she can’t sing any more? And while you’re at it, bring in stylists for her hair and wardrob, plus a counselor to explain that she’s no longer an ingenue. Meow.

Also, the National Theatre is streaming recorded live performances.

My “Laugh until you cry” moment came earlier this week…

As with others, I’ve been on a relentless search for TP almost every day since the beginning of March. So happened that I diverted one such drive to stop at a local Rite Aid to pick up a 1.75L bottle of Gordon’s Gin. And I found–in the lobby, a display of TP for sale. :joy: What a relief (is there a pun there?)

I grabbed a 12 Pack of 1000 sheet rolls, and off I went to the liquor aisle to finish my shopping. Took both items to check out and the total rang up as $32. Faith and Begorrah! Asked the clerk "How much is the toilet Paper? He came back with, $9.99. This was the cost for a generic, no-name package! Bought it, but felt like I was getting my pocket picked. To add insult to injury, the one ply rolls are almost transparent, almost see thru. My DW, and HS #3 have made it clear to me (a number of times) that this wasn’t the smartest $10 purchase I’ve ever made.

Oh, don’t beat yourself up over it. The last two times I’ve happened upon TP it was those 8 pack 1000 sheet rolls - Scott brand. Can’t be much worse than what you bought. We still have some of the good stuff left, but I still felt like I hit the lottery. And I picked up a 4 pack of store brand for .79 yesterday. You get what you pay for but it’ll do in a pinch. Any port in a storm.

Tell them they don’t have to use it. It’s yours. Should things become dire you can sell it to them by the square.

It’s interesting…I was just on a Zoom call today with a bunch of musician friends…not one of them is feeling creative. I’m not an artist but I keep thinking this must be ideal for them–think of the TIME they have! But I guess not.

simple: without medical footcare, I can’t wear my shoes for longer than about 15-20 minutes. Pain is a terrible disincentive to going out for a walk. Without access to physical therapy, I don’t want to try a new exercise regimen, whereby I could become injured. Pre-isolation exercise was mostly walking to do errands/shopping (now minimized), and to volunteering (now cancelled); or working (now non-existent).

I can totally relate. Time on my hands, but neither motivation nor inspiration.

Thanks for the post, @Rooster

I read this piece. I’m a huge Albom fan. He’s been a Michigan resident for decades after being born & raised “back east”. The charity in his heart is unfathomable. He is smart, funny, a gentleman and a gentle man.

I don’t agree with his premise here, and sent him an email reply. The Michigan he knows was build by The Greatest Generation after they returned from World War II. I believe the character of the state of Michigan is far different today than it was 60 years ago. We do lose our heads today. Over far less important matters than a worldwide pandemic.

I’m glad Albom wrote the piece. Hopefully it will create a small change in the thinking of Michigan residents…

A lot of other states too. I like the way you think.
