OT Other things to do during the quarantine

The electronics are what is killing the thrill of a new ride. Spoken by a curmudgeon.

The Wifeacita has 2008 Toyota Corolla. She’s just coming out of corona and has been fever free for two days.

At the risk of sounding insensitive I’m calling it a Toyota Corona.

Sometimes you laugh or cry and believe me I’ve done both lately.

When I drive, it’s a dog of a Honda CRV. That thing can’t get up to speed when it needs to get up to speed. My favorite car was a Saab 9000 CSE turbo 5 speed. It was mine to drive. I miss that car, but it was high maintenance and expensive to service as it aged. HA! Not as expensive as my husband’s Porsches…a 2016 GT4 and an '88 944 Turbo S. Such is life. Maybe I’ll end up with an enclosed turbo golf cart.

Great news! I hope her recovery is speedy.

I have a a file called MyMyMy Corona and have The Knack’s video along with way too much data.

So glad that she’s recovering and will survive. These are scary times. Hope you have tested negative. Was talking with my 88 year old mother yesterday 14 hours away from me on the phone, recalling typhoid fever, polio and measles (which left many children deaf.) We now have vaccines and the anti vaxxers including my dear nephew and his wife are nuts not to protect their dear little girl.

Please don’t drive it on a Houston freeway. You will be flattened like a pancake on the on ramp before you get on the freeway proper.

I hate how seemingly normal people drive like utter fools with no comprehension of any traffic laws.

Roughly 40,000 deaths annually in the US but nobody seems to care.

So glad your wifecta is doing well - was very worried about the stories of her exposure. Hope you remain symptom free also! I think Toyota Corona is a perfect moniker for her car! We need to find humor wherever we can these days, even if it’s on the darker side…

Oh so sad, please don’t even get me started on the anti-vaxers! We have them to thank for both the pertussis outbreak a few years ago, as well as the more recent measles epidemic. There are children who are too compromised for vaccines, and the anti-vaccine parents of healthy children, put these vulnerable kids at risk. Getting into political type waters, but the herd must be vaccinated. BTW, Mississippi has the highest vaccine rate of all the states, last I heard. I did have the Tdap, just a few years ago - optional for me, but had it because thought it was right thing to do. This was formerly called the TDP shot & mom told me I always got sick from it. Guess what? I still do, but feel it was worth a month (seriously) of discomfort.

After the first Gulf War I had a dog named Rocky who quickly became IR-Rocky.

After 9/11 my wonderful cat Beavis became al kitty.

Sorry about the loony stuff but I blame Mad Magazine, National Lampoon Magazine, and the tv series Monty Python’s Flying Circus for my warped sense of humor.

Mostly I blame myself for taking this comedic satire and running with it, wouldn’t change a thing.

I had so much fun driving that Saab Turbo. I remember accelerating from an on ramp onto Rte. 6 on Cape Cod and a State Trooper pacing me as I got onto the highway. I wasn’t over the speed limit, just got there as fast as I could…no harm, no foul.

Reminds me of a Steven Wright joke - he got pulled over on the Mass Pike for speeding and the Statie said “Don’t you know the speed limit is 60 miles per hour” and he said “Well, officer, I wasn’t planning on being out that long.” Always cracked me up.

I had a Yamaha RD350 motorcycle back in the 70’s that I paid 921 bucks brand new.

It was a screamer.

I loved getting on the freeway and looking over at some schmuck knowing he wouldn’t let me in, a simple downshift and accelerate at max RPMs and see you later.

I’m surprised I’m still alive.

Yes! But glad you are still with us! You would have been a perfect organ donor back then, I’m sure - speaking of warped senses’ of humor.

The Wifeacta’s job, other than looking after a thousand second graders in an inane tooth control mission in the midst of a pandemic is to track tuberculosis cases.

It’s back in a big way.

In Texas if you have TB you must take your medicine at your doctor’s or have a health department official watch you take it.

She tracks the cases although it’s suspended for now.

I had a dream that a car ran a red light and I went through the windshield and can remember spitting out glass to this day and this was in the 70’s.

I sold that bike shortly afterward.

I got going fast over with in my teens and twenties and drive a new Toyota Corolla and obey traffic laws unless I’m about to be bulldozed from behind and then I speed up.

Was going to say, re: all the Monty Python references: I can’t help thinking of the last scenes of the movie, In Search of the Holy Grail, where they are all being crucified, but are singing Look On the Bright Side of Life! Very irreverent I know, but no offense to anyone’s beliefs. Also thinking of the quote, If You’re Sailing on the Titanic, Why Go Second Class? Keep reminding H of that…I’ll be back in a bit, have to rearrange the deck chairs on the HSS Titanic, recite the Lord’s Prayer 100 times or so, and return to the ‘70’s for awhile. If you don’t hear from me for awhile, PM me & the H will respond lol. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Mr Bean used to drive a Saab Turbo. It had an alarm feature you could set to remind you are going to fast. I set it to 80, the speed limit was 55 at the time. I can’t tell you how many times he complained that a warning sound went off while he was driving and he had no idea why. I finally told him. He was not happy but realized how lucky he was to have not been stopped.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but I didn’t think we have a vaccine against TB. I do know there’s a resurgence now, especially among the homeless, and I distinctly remember being tested for it in elementary school, multiple times. Need edification if possible. Too busy to google it up at the moment.

BTW, glad you got the motorcycle & need for speed out of your system. I only need the turbo 4 Porsche to punch it up on the freeway.

That was Life of Brian.

Oh my gosh, thank you for putting up with me! Too long ago for me to remember correctly, I guess. Should do my due diligence before posting. I operate on ROM
mode sometimes…

Nope, never suggested a vaccine, but what they do is track the meds taken daily and the Wifeacita says it’s a handful of up to twenty pills of anti-biotics and anti this and that.
