Just arrived in Milan and kept the first dinner quite “classic” with typical dishes for the region like cotoletta di vitello at Osteria Brunello https://www.osteriabrunello.it/ Overall really good start into our trip with excellent dishes (and service which knows how to not rush etc)

Bread
Squash blossom tempura, stuffed with sheep ricotta cheese and Cantabruan anchovies, with zucchini pesto, mint and toasted almonds
“Mondeghili” meatballs, soft smoked potato puree and green sauce
Piemontese beef tartare, rocket salad and “Raspadura” lodigiana cheese
Plancha sea bass, saffron mashed potatoes and sauteed eggplants with basil
“Tagliatelle” pasta with veal ragout and Umbrian black truffle
La cotoletta di vitello alla milanese, breaded veal cutlet “Milanese style” with rocket mayonnaise, cherry tomatoes and oregano dressing
Seasonal vegetables sautéed with teriyaki sauce

We always go to Uno Posto a Milano when we’re in Milan.
It’s not life changing, nor MIchelin starred this or that, but it’s a comforting spot that makes you feel like your wearing that well broken in pair of loafers.

Best things to order from brunello other than the veal cutlet and rice?
Just pick what looks good for - overall quite consistent quality level

I would say that I had a pretty normal forgettable meal at brunello. Maybe it was beset by my high expectations but I feel like posters from this board, ftc, and it seems chow hound loved this place and was touted as a standard bearer for cuisine in the city. Maybe it has jumped the shark? Purely a tourist restaurant (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing), the best thing was the prices were very reasonable and the walk street was super lively and fun.
Everything was ok, the squash blossoms were pretty doughy and the tagliatelle was not bad but quite standard. Best of the bunch was veal Milanese. Good i commented to the wife that it was reminiscent of a good fast casual fried sandwich with the mayonnaise. I would also note that we have been eating quite well the last couple of days and that may have colored my thoughts as well.
