I saw that on the web site… has to be a typo. I spoke with the owner and she said they had just opened recently. LOVED the pupusas myself.
I think the “moved from elsewhere” answer might be likely (if, in fact, they started 40 years ago). This way they could both be new and old. A little searching suggests that this location housed a sandwich and sub shop called sub-way until recently.
I also remember getting very good tacos at some joint very close to this location around 10 years ago (I think @MC-Slim-JB had recommended it over on CH), but don’t remember the name.

Taqueria El Amigo or Antojitos are two other favorites that are nearby.
A real hole in the wall place - but great tacos.
I popped into Tacqueria El Amigo when I was in Waltham last summer. I agree, the tacos were great.
Take it with a grain of salt, but this is the place that Yelp included on the Top 100 Taco spots in America in 2022 and 84th best restaurant in the country in 2024
Evviva and 110 Grill do a pretty good job with special requests, especially allergy-related (110’s entire menu can be made gluten-free! ). The food is okay, not fantastic - I think Burton’s is better.
Useful info. I hadn’t noticed that.
Mysterious. I did find this interesting spreadsheet of all Waltham restaurants while researching, has some things I wasn’t aware of including an ice cream place near Brandeis and Banh Mi on Lexington St.
Apparently the Iggy’s cafe next to Formaggio Kitchen in Cambridge is open. I can’t find a web presence nor reports on the menu.
Yes. See these:
Odd that there’s nothing on the Iggy’s web site nor a separate web presence. Perhaps they’re in a soft open phase ? Boston Magazine is reporting the name is Kismet.
The Blue Elephant Thai restaurant (719 Broadway, Somerville, MA - Ball Sq) has opened for take out; sit down service starts this coming Wednesday.
The owners made a nice post on a Somerville or Davis Square community page and have a nice website. I have to admit though, I was disappointed to see everything from ramen to pho to lo mein to yakisoba on the menu. Plus crab rangoon. While I’m not an expert, those kind of attempts to cover a lot of different countries’ cuisines don’t generally bode well.
I completely agree.
A second location of Sofra has opened in Allston, according to Boston Restaurant Talk.
Thanks, I’ve been watching their progress from afar as I’ve driven past in recent weeks. Next time I’ll stop.
Istanbul’lu, a Turkish cafe/restaurant @237 Holland St in Teele Sq, Somerville, closed a month or more ago. A sign on the door says that a vegetarian cafe named “The Buzzin’ Bean” will replace it.
I really liked that place pre-pandemic.
So did I. Especially the breakfast. I didn’t go often enough!
