A lot of local brewing history there. Memories!
EDIT: And I missed that this was already posted! My bad. Wasn’t that busy yesterday for lunch, so will leave the mini review here.
Kung Fu Kitchen is now open in Brookline on Beacon St right off the Coolidge Corner stop. This is the first outpost of the NYC eatery outside of NYC. Offers a variety of appetizers and dumplings, noodle dishes and it’s handmade soup dumplings.
They are noted for offering hand-made noodles, from ramen style to the wavy, squiggly knife cut noodles. Their soup dumplings are supposed to be all made in house fresh. The dumplings were definitely the star of our lunch meal there yesterday, and the broth was really flavorful. Their pig ear appetizer was also really good.
Bossmamma, a sports bar/restaurant with a ‘pour your own’ beer wall, just opened @ at 963 Main Street , Wakefield, MA. (If you’ve visited Revolution Hall in Lexington then you’ve seen the concept)
Thanks for sharing, I’ve driven past it (on the Pike) twice in the last week and wondered about it, but kept forgetting to look it up!
I laughed at the comment by Will about astrophysicists next to artists. CBC became a kind of reception room for the Francis Bitter Magnet Lab at MIT - and NMR spectroscopists from all over the world developed an affection. Brought a lot of us together too. I remember sitting on the terrace one time and overheard the next table talking about siting a big magnet. No idea who they were but I understood how they ended up at CBC. Kudos to Phil, a real mensch.
That is so Cambridge (in the best way), right?
I feel as though we’ve all crossed paths at one point or another. I spent much of my formative years there. I was neither an astrophysicist or an artist but merely someone who appreciated good beer and decent pub grub. I remember eavesdropping on many interesting conversations.
Thank you, CBC.
They’ve opened (see top of thread). When I walked in today they had three things on offer: excellent pretzels, decent regular croissants, and somewhat burnt-looking almond croissants. I asked if they’d be offering more in the future, but couldn’t get a clear answer.
I didn’t get a good look at what they call themselves, but the emailed receipt I got suggests it’s “Love”. If so, it’s an odd name. If you try to Google it, you’d end up looking in all the wrong places.
Comparisons may not always be odious, but when not they are certainly odiferous. So, to maintain my stinking reputation, I snagged a house-baked croissant from FK next door. I preferred the tangy taste of the FK version (cultured butter?). Both had modest shatter.
It will be interesting to see how this works out with FK already selling so much of Iggy’s product. They, too, had Iggy’s croissants on display, both plain and almond.
Posted to company slack: Lakon Paris Patisserie now open in the Seaport, on 113 Autumn Ln. Original location is in Newton I think.
Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is also scheduled to open on Thursday the 26th. Located within the Superette complex in Seaport.
Also adding that Uncle Tetsu Cheesecake in Chinatown has also been confirmed open.
LOWELL news. Captain John’s, much loved seafood restaurant/dive bar, is for sale. Apparently the matriarch of the owning family passed away a while back. No telling what is to come but if you’ve been meaning to go, don’t delay.
That place looks up our alley, especially now that our Spring Onion had taken a liking to fish and chips. We’ll try to get there before it closes.
@greygarious - Erica, just wanted to let you know I moved your post over to the most current thread for Openings/Closing in the Boston area (along with @digga 's reply).
I went for the first (and last?) time last week. My DC, a whole clam aficionado, said the fried clam roll was very fresh, very generous, and very delicious. Whole clams scare me and they don’t offer strips, so I made a lunch out of two appetizers: potato skins and stuffed clams casino. Both good. The stuffing was mostly chopped clams, with only enough breadcrumbs to hold it together. We shared and enjoyed their justifiably famous, lightly battered, onion rings.
I want to work where you work…our Slack channels are such a bore, mostly work chatter.
We tried Chennai Eats, which seems to have opened recently in Watertown. We really enjoyed the dosa and samosas.
Thanks. What’s perhaps even more interesting is that they seem to be at 93 School St., once the home of the late, great – no, not Hannibal Lecter – Strip T’s. After that it’s been a couple of things, most recently a mediocre (by other accounts) bbq joint. I wish them well, but I worry a bit about the generic, pan-Indianness of much of the menu.
Appealing menu with the non veg dosa and parotta section. I’d be eating my way through the South Indian meats (ghee roast, salna, andhra, chettinadu, etc) over anything North Indian. Hard to find non veg South Indian places on the east coast.
Waku Waku Ramen now open in Quincy. It’s right next door (possibly shared?) to Kungfu Tea at the corner of Beale and Hancock Sts in Wollaston area.
Yeah, I’m interested in trying their kothu paratta; it’s been ages since we had one around here. (There used to be a Sri Lankan place in Cambridge with a really good one, but they went downhill and then closed years ago.)
I’m always disappointed by kothu parotta for some reason – maybe I’m expecting a bit of crisp on the parotta but then it’s only soggy? But that’s a me problem
(I sent your link to my friends & family in the area in case they find themselves nearby, along with the following list: Chicken Ghee Roast, Chicken Dosa, Chettinadu Chicken Curry, Andhra Style Chicken Curry, Parotta with Chicken or Goat (Salna), Chettinadu Chicken Biryani, Thalappakati Goat Biryani. Oh and Madras coffee, which should be filter coffee.)
